It can still get infected, OP. In all likelihood your dog will need antibiotics and if he is that sore, a vet visit is definitely in order in the morning for treatment. Please don't give your dog any human pain-relief medication as you could poison him.

The parents think a trip to the vet isnt necessary and decide calpol would be a great thing to give the dog  .Any pain relief medicine i can buy?

Just Google Dog bites on Dogs and read the advice you get. Dog bites can look like very superficial puncture marks on a dog but that's the problem. Animals carry lots of bacteria in their mouths and often when the skin heals over those bacteria go to work in under the skin causing extreme pain and abcess in under the skin. It takes a Vet to assess how serious a bite is, to clean it out properly and to provide the right kind of antibiotics to prevent real trouble. Get your dog to a Vet. There are Blue Cross vans in various parts of Dublin and if you look at their website you may be able to get to one of them tomorrow, if you are in Dublin and if money is a problem.

Would it help if you told the parents that NOT going straight to the vet is likely to lead to a much more expensive bill a little later on?

As it stands, the wounds likely need flushing already, and definitely either a long-acting antibiotic injection or a course of antibiotic pills. All of which can be done without sedation.

Leave it a few days, and there is a good chance that they will need debridement, ie. trimming off necrotic flesh to prevent the infection from spreading throughout the body. The dog will need full anaesthetic for that, and a lot more meds and aftercare visits, all of which will cost them money.

The pain that the dog is in is distressing and unacceptable, but to be perfectly honest, it is the least of your worries, and is also among the many things that will be a lot worse if this is left to fester.
