I'm going to be in the US for a couple of weeks at Thanksgiving, should I wait and try to get one there or buy now from carphone warehouse uk?

What's the deal with the 4G, will it matter where I buy it for that?

In the past it has taken exactly 90 minutes for my pm orders to get from the Dublin depot to my motel.

It is 85 minutes and counting now...

Yeah unfortunately it will matter. The US 4g bands are all different to the EU 4g bands so you need to get the UK version to support the 800/900/1800 bands.
3g would work fine I think but unfortunately it won't support 4g here.

Cheers for the reply, out of curiosity would the UK version work in the US for 4g or are they incompatible both ways?

It works both ways unfortunately :(

4g is a bit of an unregulated mess globally at he moment as it seems to have been a bit of a race to market and so they took whatever spectrum was free in order to make it available and didn't consider global compatibility too much.
It may perhaps work itself out in the future in terms of standard frequencies but I doubt it because of the money it would cost.

However, the good news is that Qualcomm (I think) seem to have developed a chip that has radios to handle all frequencies which will arrive to market soon. That's not much use to you now I guess, but maybe it's some consolation!

I just had a closer look, and it seems that the only frequency common between the UK version of the phone and those that us carriers use is 2100 on at&t and T-Mobile.
The only problem is that they might only use that in certain areas and so the signal could be patchy and unreliable.

You will definitely need a case for it
It's very slight and could slip out of your hand very easy
The build is similar to nexus 4 so the screen is built into the fone un
If it falls and cracks your screwed just like the 4

    My first reaction....

But it's nice , got it in white..
