will be in france next week, does anyone know if I could pick up a nexus 5 in a bricks and mortar store over there?

Are you buying with a credit or debit card?

    4j2rvHV.png

EDIT: Seriously getting p*ssed at this. And I do want the phone, another isn't really an option.

I had the exact same problem so I emailed them. Got a reply a few hours later
Google works hard to protect you from multiple types of fraud, including stolen credit card numbers, unauthorized access to your Google Wallet and accidental purchases by family members. Using advanced modelling, our specialist Risk Team identified your specific order as needing further review and they're checking it for you now. We apologise for the inconvenience!

If you'd like to place a new order, please just wait 48 hours before trying again. (We can't complete the manual review on your account until you've gone 48 hours without making a new purchase.) Now, although your orders have been cancelled, you may still notice activity on your debit/credit card for those orders. Don't worry; those amounts on your card statement are just authorisations, not actual charges, and they'll be removed from your account in 1-14 business days (depending on your bank). To learn more about authorisations, please visit our Help Centre.

So I guess I'll just have to wait 48 hours and try again!

I mailed them and they just said it was a problem with my card authorization. It might be my bank blocking the transaction, will give my bank a ring. Nothing mentioned about a 48 hour delay.

Hadn't even gotten a reply to my emails. Guess I'll wait then!

What do you expect theres always going to be a massive markup from any retail store in Ireland.
Sure theres a huge markup on the online uk store for the phones when compared to the us prices. Got someone from Canada to order my 32GB nexus 5 for 363 euros including the delivery for sending it over.... the mark up over here is ridiculous.

Update: Rang Ulster Bank ( https://www.ulsterbankanytimebanking.ie/help.aspx?id=Contact ) and changed my Billing Address in less than five minutes. Might take the until morning to update though.

Results soon, probably tomorrow or when the 48 hours have passed :)

EDIT: Checked UB Internet Banking, and my address has updated. :pac:

Now, surely I should be all good to go? Billing Address w/ Google is PM as my Ulster Bank billing address is now PM also.
No trace of Irishness at all :P

Did you add in the PMID as well as the PM shipping address?

Yep, told the guy my address was

    "Shane Boardie PMXXXXXX,
    Parcel Motel, 1A McKinney Road,
    Newtownabbey,
    Antrim,
    BT36 4PE".

Checked my Online Banking details and it had changed a few minutes after the call ended. :D

So is the Canadian one the same as the one sold here, basically are you going to be able to use LTE with it!? I assumed you checked that before you bought it.....

Going to Belfast the weekend, wheres the best place to get my hands on a nexus 5?

Im thinking carphone may be my best bet, they have it listed for 330 pound.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,019 ✭✭✭ct5amr2ig1nfhp

I tried a number of Carphone Warehouses and they all said they were not selling the Nexus 5 SIM free at the moment. Best to ring the store before going.

Update: Won't be purchasing until Friday, but today I checked the Play Store (with my UK Account for buying the N5) and I had all the Movie, Devices and other UK options available without using TunnelBear.

So, if your billing address is = UK, then you'll get the Play Store UK w/o a VPN.

I also tried buying an app that was 50p, and It went through, I tried to buy the app before I changed my billing address but It failed every time. Looking good!

Interesting. I'm awaiting delivery of my N5. When it arrives is it worth considering registering with the Play Store with my new UK Google account? I really don't see myself purchasing movies and music from them. Are there any other benifits? Bearing in mind that I wouldn't be able to access all of the apps I've purchased with my Irish account.

I don't think it's possible to switch between accounts on the same device is it?

Yeah you can switch between them easily, just slide to the right and tap the arrow beside your current account. If you've added your UK account to your N5 as well as the Irish one, it'll show up.

Oh right. Cheers. Just checked and I've already got two Irish accounts.

So they go to all of this trouble negotiating licensing and royalty agreements with rights owners in the UK....and I can still access the content here that easily? Anyway off topic. Back to discussing shipping dates.

I ordered mine on the 17th of this month and was given a shipping date of the 11th of December. My payment was deducted and refunded last week and the purchase is showing as "pending" with the delivery date unchanged.

Is there any chance I might wake up some morning and be pleasantly surprised to find that my phone has shipped two weeks early?

Have any of those who have received their devices received them early?

  • Registered Users Posts: 813 ✭✭✭IrishStuff09

I've read of one here who got his a week before his shipment date. What N5 did you order? White / Black, 16 /32GB?

I'm ordering White in the hope it will ship quicker and be out before the Christmas rush

32GB Black, which seems to be in demand so probably best not to get my hopes up.

Yeah, I'd say in around the expected shipment date would be about right. Demand for the 16GB Black would be the highest so I'd expect a late date for those.

From what I know he certainly won't be able to.

From messing around on the UK Carphone Warehouse site I've seen you can order a Nexus Sim Free and have it delivered to any of their UK stores. Maybe I'm completely wrong but as a last resort for some people might be able to order one and collect themselves if they were having difficulty with the Play store. Haven't tried it but maybe the same card problems would crop up. Also they only have the 16gb version though.

Edit. Hmmm seems you need a UK Mobile Number to order. Back to the drawing board I think

How much is the nexus 5 16gb on the play store?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,042 ✭✭✭zl1whqvjs75cdy

Ordered some of those nfc stickers there for the phone. They look pretty nifty and I just love futuristic gadgettry. Has anyone else used these with the N5 yet?

£299, a little over €350 including delivery I think, although I got the 32gb one.

Yeah, I got some from AirNFC.com a few days ago and I have them all over the place now. NFC task launcher is by far the best app for programming them. I'm trying to pretty much automate everything

Good shout, installed the app there. Soon everything will be automatic.

Just out of curiosity, how would I go about using the warranty on the device? What would be the process since it was bought from the UK store?
