Some funny stuff going on with WiFi power usage. It's showing WiFi as the main power user almost all the time, even if I have it manually switched off! All the settings are correct as far as I can see including disabling the "scanning even if Wifi is off" one, or whatever its called. The only thing that I can think of is that location is set to "high accuracy" which includes WiFi, so maybe that's switching it on even if it's manually disabled which is a bit naughty.

My phone (dialler) is playing up....
Proximity sensor not working properly and I am not able to hang up calls..

anyone else experience this since upgrade ?

I had problems with Gravity Screen which uses the Prox sensor. I am sure that it has something to do with the new power saving Doze mode. The developer confirmed this & said that the polling had been changed on the Prox sensor.

Try settings > battery > battery optimisation > all apps

You can turn off any app that you don't want Doze to effect.

    I posted this earlier

So my battery started draining more today. I checked & discovered that wifi was using lots of battery only, according to my drop down & status bar, wifi was off. I clicked on wifi & it said that it was on.

I think that the wifi switched itself on.

Also having battery draining issues with WiFi. I believe everything is disabled that should be.
I also had a huge battery drain of about 20% yesterday in the space of an hour when the phone was barely in use.

Something is going rogue. The doze feature performing poorly too. No difference from Lollipop.

Since I updated I have constant issues with wi-fi connection (only tested with UPC at home).
This seems to be limited to my phone as two other devices connect and stay connected with no problems.

The wi-fi will drop out, both while browsing and while locked, and then keep trying to reconnect. If I check the status it is usually stuck on "Obtaining IP address", or else will cycle through "Connecting" - "Obtaining IP address" - "Connecting".
It is not coming up high on my power usage.

I wonder is this contributing to the some people's battery drain?

    And has anyone experienced/resolved this?

You can stop apps from "Dozing" but it appears that you can't turn it off for wifi

I have noticed a definite difference in the way that wifi behaves

Just after getting the ota update, hope like hell it does something about the battery

After a few days to settle down my battery is doing fantastic now; took it off the charger at about 7:55am this morning and about 11 hours later it had only lost 25%. Typically I'd be down to around 40% by now if not lower; no comparison to how it was so long may it continue... or you know, until my 6P arrives in two weeks :pac:

From what I have read it suggests that the battery will last longer if the phone isn't moving. Apparently Doze uses the accelerometer to decide if it can shut apps down.

For people complaining of problems with marshmallow have you upgraded ota or flashed/factory reset. I always go for a fresh flash and never have a problem with new software.

If your battery is dying, check in settings and search "wifi scanning" and you may see "wi-fi scanning is on"

I've done that (via Location settings) and it's still draining very very fast when WiFi is on. I'm talking a 1% every few minutes. I've tried other things I've seen listed like switching to 2.4Ghz band only but no luck. WiFi uses about 40% of the battery when turned on. It makes the phone unusable then.
By comparison there's no issue when it's using 3G. In fact the battery life is probably better then.

Has anyone overcome the WiFi issues?

Nope, WiFi has been murdering my battery life. I left it idle for a while yesterday and it plummeted from 40% to 11% in about two hours. I hadn't actually touched it, I was too busy playing Batman.

Good guide to the WiFi problem. I switched to 2.4 only & turned scanning off. It's made a big improvement.

This only works for 2.4 or can it also work with the 5.0?

Where did you go to replace the battery or did you send it in?

its actually quite easy to do it yourself. its a like a 10-15 minute job.

the bigger problem is getting legit batteries - i think lg doesnt make them anymore and outsourced production to samsung (hence all the people getting samsung batteries) that have 1900 mah or so. apparently they're rated the same as the original 2300 mah lg batteries, but i'd be sceptical.

I think a litany of terrible feedback, and plenty of suggestions of dodgy business practises has caused boards.ie to add their name as one string to the swear filter. Basically they seem to rank about on a par with a certain online "retailer" that sounds a lot like BeerFest...... Just take a look here for examples of bad feedback

One thing that killed my battery today was "Trusted Faces". I went from 30% to 2% and after that happened, Google Maps would shut off my phone. What I found amazing, after restarting my phone and turning out "Trusted Faces", my battery went from 2% to 18% in about 30 minutes. I still did not try to use Google Maps.

your battery is definitely done. i used to use trusted faces, and use google maps every now and then. battery life is just fine on my nexus 5. it had an influence on battery life, but i would still get throught he day comfortably. get a replacement battery.

Well Fridays software upgrade finally Killed my Nexus5:( It starts then gets in to a loop of starting an stopping. It maybe about time for a new phone anyway.
I thought that I had it 3 years and was going to say it was great for a 3 year old phone but it must be 2.
Phones appear to have got stupidly expensive since I last bought one so no idea what to upgrade to.

Wugs nexus toolkit usually sorts out the bootlooping on my nexus 5 with a forced factory reset.

Anyone know if you can get a nano sim tray for the original nexus 5 to replace the micro tray?

would it not be easier to spend €5 and buy a nano sim adapter. Your nano sim fits into the adapter, and the adapter fits into tray for a micro sim. Most if not all phone shops sell them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,780 ✭✭✭JohnK

It would but reading this like this http://www.androidcentral.com/warning-using-sim-adapter-incorrectly-brings-down-world-hate makes me pretty wary of that approach.

Any suggestions for a decent car holder for my N5?
Dashboard is "cobbled" so it has to be from the windscreen. Weight of the phone (and cover) broke the arm on the last cheapo one I got.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,715 ✭✭✭Gryzor

Have this for over year. I'd say I'll have to pry it off the windscreen in the end...

    The push\click works well also...

It's very good. Had to take the chunky cover off the phone but it works really well and is super solid.

That would be nice if it had a wireless charger

Phone was switching itself off at random times and getting stuck intermittently in a constant loop on the loading screen so I did a factory reset.

All good until today when it did it while charging.
With the charger plugged in, it goes straight to the white "Google" startup screen without me pressing any buttons. It then switches off and back on again, over and over.

Take the cable out and the phone is completely unresponsive.

    Any pointers?

    P.S. I'm 4 days out of warranty. :(

Happened me with mine ages ago, turned out to be a sticking power button, a few gentle taps with the rubber part of my runner sorted it and it never came back. Though could be worth contacting google they may still cover it with warranty with it only being 3 days out, worst they could do is say no.

Contact Google assuming you bought it directly off them tell them you want a repair or a replacement. Don't take no for an answer and mention some of your consumer rights they love when you throw in the Sale of Goods Supply of Services Act.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,528 ✭✭✭gaius c

Thank you muchly. I will contact them again and point out that I've spent over €900 in the play store (including this phone) as well as (outlet store purchases) 3 nexus 7 tablets, 1 nexus 10 tablet and persuaded my brother to buy a nexus 7 as well.

Has to be it. Few taps got the phone switching on again but it's probably only a temp fix.

It fixed mine going on a few months now, seems to be a common fault, problem is i dont think the button itself is a serviceable part its built into the motherboard so its an expensive fix, so hopefully google fix it for you, but id get on to them asap

So I finally got the phone back. Google refused to help and stopped responding when I mentioned sale of goods act. LG were a lot more helpful and did fix it even though I without my phone for pretty much all of May.

And yes, it was the power button.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,961 ✭✭✭✭Discodog

Use Gravity Screen & you won't need to use the power button. It works really well.

just wanna let you know: if you ever have a defective screen or your phone doesnt charge anymore:

its INCREDIBLY easy to repair this thing.

my daughter threw it into the toilet twice, the screen got "soaked" and eventually didnt turn on anymore and it wouldnt charge properly.

so i ordered a replacement screen and a charging port off ebay for 50 euro total. replacing these thing is a piece of cake. the whole screen, glass and side frame are one assembly. so when opened, you just transfer all the hardware (motherboard, cameras, speakers, battery) on the new screen and screw everything down again. took me 45 minutes because i was also watching a tutorial video on youtube at the same time. but now i could do it in 15 minutes, i guess.

you need a 00 or 000 philips screw driver, you can get a set at maplin for 7 euro.
