My nexus 5 battery life is terrible. It's been awful since day one. I'm barely getting a day of general use out of it. My S3 I could get nearly two days no problem. It's at a stage where I'm restricting my use just to get through the day.

I've done a factory reset to test if it was an app but there's been no improvement. I am seriously considering changing to a different handset.

I might give Francos kernel a try Tango One - any advise on flashing it, or just flash as normal?

You must have something eating the battery or have brightness up full. I'm noticing huge increase in battery life after coming from an S3.

It should be noteed that the samsung phones use a completely different type of screen technology called Amoled, the colors on those screens are artificially pumped way up and most LCD screens dont look so well when compered head to head.
That does not mean the lcd is not as good, just that compered to over blown amoleds they can come arcoss as lacking.

Also the text systen is supposed to be basic use a third party app for added bling
I never liked the S2 screen. Always thought the colours were oversaturated and unnatural (cartooney!) looking. I had a HTC Sensation at the time and much preferred the natural and sharp screen on that.

As long as your root you can use his handy free app for flashing. The paid version allow you switch between the different revisions of the kernel plus underclocking and a few other things.

As I say it's been like that since day one... no apps. Exactly the same after a factory reset. And all the usual tweaks to get the most out of the battery.

My S3 was great for battery life btw...

Picked up a holder for the car. I want to try one that hooks onto the vent and at £6.48 it was worth a try. It feel a bit cheap and not exactly hugging onto the vent but does the job.

Got my hands on a wireless charging car holder for my n5. It is able to maintain/hold same level of charge of battery while running GPS, playing netcasts and maintaining Pebble watch bluetooth connection. (brightness turned down)

(link says nexux 4 but its to the n5 page)

Really late with this and I have seen some answers but just wanted to be sure.

If I have some family in the US buy the Nexus 5 off the Play Store there and then bring it over here next month everything will work fine except for LTE is that right?

I don't really mind about the lack of that as I don't use it anyway and I'm more concerned about whether I can just plug in a SIM and use it.

Here's a EUR 1.32 Nexus 5 bumper, shipped from china. Price is P&P inclusive.

The material is very matt and firm, yet with a strange PU like softness. Fits snug.

I'm really surprised by the quality, there's a choice of colours.

    c7ce.jpg

White, Black, Red, Pink, Rose, Sky Blue, Dark Blue, Purple

    The eBay seller is: http://www.ebay.ie/usr/china-town-uk

    Specific item page: http://www.ebay.ie/itm/231088070573/

Expect to wait up to 2 weeks for delivery.

Not too shabby. I just wanted something to lift the actual phone off of table surfaces etc. Worried about the camera lens getting damaged, scratched.

Some photos of a black cover on my Nexus 5.

Fancy me posting about this when last few posts are about covers! :( I dropped my nexus yesterday (yes I know) so the screen is cracked. I really hope there is some place I could get screen repaired/replaced so would any of you know? Because few websites I looked at so far only mention iphones blah

  • Registered Users Posts: 570 ✭✭✭hooplah

From what I've seen it'll be pretty costly to repair the screen. See here for replacement parts costs; http://www.etradesupply.com/lg/android-models/lg-nexus-5.html

I would be too afraid to do it myself. But thanks for giving me an idea how much it would cost without labour.

Thanks for the cover recommendations. Am looking for a bright yellow one.

Anyone got any good experience of non official wireless chargers?

Three are apparently going to be selling this very soon in Ireland. No details on pricing yet.

It's up on the Coming Soon section of the site.

I'm so conflicted. I loathe Three and swore I'd never go back to them after the hell they caused me, but I really really want a Nexus 5.

Recently dropped mine, and cracked the glass and took a tiny chip out of the bottom of the screen at the base. I had to send it back to LG in the UK for repair. They use a company called SBE for their repairs, who luckily have an Irish office [repairs still done in UK].

Had it repaired and returned in 3 weeks.

That's interesting, what did it cost you? It was hardly done for free was it?

Has anyone with a Nexus 5 received the Google Play Services update OTA?

The framework? No, I read it'll be a few weeks as it's a full update not through Play store, most likely not rolled out on it's own.

No update here but I am having lots of issues with downloading and updating apps!? What difference will the Google Play Services update make guys!?

    Nope haven't got it yet.

Anybody buy insurance for theirs yet? Most of the sites I've looked at in Ireland don't seem to have the phone in their lists.
