Definitely should have left the door opening out.

Would've been nice just to have them all toast her.

She deserved at least one episode of memories without attempted humour, ****e filler scenes and scaryman callum

    Tracy cannot cry at all

Katie Ford just can't act, its as simple as that.

What's the story with Simon, he was very fond of Deirdre, even if he's annoyed with Leanne its strange to see a kid bottle up emotions like that.

No need for the pub, bistro or Callum scenes should only be about the Barlow "family"

I think because everybody that's close to him seems to go away or die, like for a young child he has had so many people come in and out of his life, its like he just can't take it anymore like he expects bad things to happen, he will just go off the rails now.

They must have brought Emily home, and then left her home alone because Rita and Norris remained in the pub. That doesn't really make sense.
I think they are getting this wrong, in the circumstances. It's very different to a situation where it's a character being written out by dying, and in reality the person is alive and well.
Deirdre/ Anne deserves so much better, having been such a stalwart of the Street for so long. There is the odd good bit, such as the Ken and Steve scene last night, and Emily. But overall, it's not good.
The door opening tonight was cringey and spoilt what could have been a nice moment. Carla off to the casino, oh please. Obviously the start of a painful storyline. As for the Platts and Callum, words fail me. :(

I would have thought Emily as her godmother especially would have gone to see Tracy and pay her condolences to Ken

    I had the same thought.
And the notion that Steve would have to ring Michelle to say he was walking around the block with Ken... Ridiculous.

I've only ever heard Keith Lemon say it. Camp Callum must be a Celebrity Juice fan.

Did Danny Dyer aka Mick say it in Eastenders at some stage?

They are blowing out three or four episodes on this disrespectful crap.

When Anne died, after a decent period, a letter from her should have arrived at the Barlows', telling Ken she was living happily with her friend, was sick of her boring husband and her murderous daughter, and she was leaving for good.
Job done, and Anne's memory untainted.

Next comes the funeral. They should be ashamed.

Deirdre stayed away because of Tracy's affair with Tony, Deirdre and Liz have had affairs themselves in the past and Tracy has done far worse like murdering Charlie so that reason is stupid imo

what they should have done is not dragged it out this long, the fact ths is happening months later makes it more farcical, i know they were upset at the loss of a colleague, but a simple bev turning up saying deirdre had died suddenly and them all mourning, do the funeral scene and pay respects with maybe stories about her for the whole episode told by the older characters that worked with her years, e.g emily, ken, tracy...etc i don't think they have ever spent an entire episode just listening to characters talking about someone who died so it could have been new and different. and lets be honest more like real life than this current storyline, (not to mention possibly therapeutic for her friends to just sit and talk about her)

none of this "quality street tin" crap, the letter addressed "to whom it may concern", the ghostly door in the rovers???, the "it's all tracy's fault" rubbish and then interrupting it with this rubbish Callum vs Kylie??

i feel embarrassed for the writers writing this crap and its an insult to the legacy of an amazing character and actress.

    +1 to all of this.

I too had hoped that there would be at least one episode of the 'oldies' chatting about Deirdre, and their memories of her. I didn't even watch last night, and I hate that they are turning it into yet another Tracy story, instead of paying due respect to Deirdre / Anne.

If I start on the rubbish that is Callum and co, this will become an epic rant, so I won't even start. I wish he would just drive away, shortly, preferably taking Sarah and Bethany with him.

Here is my take of how it could / should of been done.

There should have been no sudden death. Perhaps a sudden aneurysm which left her with a few days to live and a stroke related to it rendering her without the capacity to speak. Have the various characters close to deirdre "visit her" in her dying last few days in hospital. Of course this would require the actors/actresses speak to a Deirdre we can not see as the "body of Deirdre" could not be obviously shown.

Have two episodes or so of the characters in the hospital. Liz, Steve (on behalf of Amy), Ken, Peter, Simon, Tracy, Roy, Emily, Bev (terrible actress, mind). I can't think of anyone else that would be justified to be there. (Even Roy would be imposing a bit)

Make it a bit more cheerful/nostalgic but poignant/sad at the same time. Have a hand representing Deirdre so whilst the actors are speaking to her as she lays in bed (the scenario is she is able to understand them, not reply to them due to her voice..........I know it sounds a bit complicated but it could have easily be done)

Have ken on his own "speaking to her" Happy and sad memories, promises to mind Tracy/grandchildren. Have him declare his love etc.
Ditto with Tracy, let the event of her speaking her last few words to her mother make her realise how pathetic her way of life is.
Let Amy and Simon go in with Peter and Steve, make it sad obviously but lighten the mood somewhat with a happy story.
    Same with Emily and Roy.
Have the few cast that are at the hospital also discuss the events in the waiting area as the time goes by to split the scenes up.
final scene have the doctor approach Ken and make it known to him Deirdre has passed away. He walks in and leans over as if to kiss the head of Deirdre and walks out of the room crying.

    Credits roll in silence.

No Camp Callum, no pathetic and predictable and ever growingly unfunny remarks from Norris

    No gambling escapades from Carla

    No Michelle.

just an episode (well a half 7 and half 8 episode) dedicated to Deirdre, her family and her passing.

I know the medical issues would have to be ironed out somewhat but it is a believable and doable scenario.

I thought of that in 10 minutes.

Blackburn and his crew have had 7 months.

    SIGH.
