Just to save me reading through 130 pages on this,
but what did the solicitor say about the Peruvian justice system, to publicly slag it off?

If he did, it seems like a very stupid approach to take.
If you go to their country, you play by their rules
stupid approach is right, from memory he was questioning their bail system in a very condescending way and implied that their legal system was backward-its on one of the rte archive video footages;the up shot of it is both I and many others and more importantly the peruvian state prosecutor were/are none too impressed by his antics

When someone is banged up abroad, it is always a "Foreign Hell Hole", with a corrupt judiciary.

Today's UK edition of "The Sun" has a 2 page feature on Brits in "Foreign Hell Holes". You know, those innocent brits banged up by the corrupt wops with their corrupt judges and whatnot.

Ireland was featured in the Top 10 ! Had to laugh.

Well, presumably he doesn't specialise in Peruvian law if he's based in Belfast.
So why did they not get a local lawyer out in Peru who does? It does seem odd, a bit like blind leading the blind.

If I was the girls, I'd want somebody is very familair with this type of situation in Peru to tell me exactly what the options are.

that you would think; a bit of snoberry from the irish one's family; "we'll get the local nordie solicitor" to get her off might have been their foolish thoughts perhaps, and the iilusion that the nordie matlock impersonator was going to use his whinge tactics to great effect; on this who is funding his trips outhere would it be sinn fein connections has michaela got any hunger striker or gun running connections?

It seems to me the Jim McDonald/Lionel Hutz put himself forward as thier representative because he happened to be in the country(up to who knows what).

After he'd slagged off the peruvian judicial and corrections system he tried to paint himself out to be dashing crusader who will use his considerable legal brain plus Nordie wideboy tactics to cheat justice and have the two wee lambs sent home scott free.

Somebody launched a campaign around this time to collect money for the girls' "legal expenses" which was pipped at 20k...a fraction of which was collected and Mr Nordie promptly vanished from the scene after a spot of very public backsliding.

The Nordie windbag has done far more harm than good IMO and he should've kept his beak out of the case unless he actually had something to contribute.

I assume your basing that opinion on the fragments of video / pictures in the rags and on the news. Not really much to go on is it? And taken out of context probably.

Not a trace of remorse or humility from either them or that Nordie Jowlbag ambulance-chaser.

The only time I have seen either of them speaking was when they were busted at the airport. Have you seen them speaking since? Seen any interviews? Have you spoken to the personally? How do you know they have no remorse?

We have trawled through that, the gist amongst the apologists seemed to be that the poor girl wouldn't be able to understand the funny accent of a peruvian lawyer and that Perry Mason here had an important role to play communicating the travesty of it all back to the goms in rte...or something.

compare the Nigerian mans response (1min 16 seconds) in the clip below to being caught as a drugs mule in peru, to the nordie ones antics they are worlds apart
the Nigerian man is apologetic and responsible for his actions
the nordie one is doing the usual knacker self centred victim card stuff and being totally irresponsible:

I'm assuming that the Peruvian justice system doesn't allow some-one person unqualified in it's laws to breeze into it's courts to represent an accused.

I didn't watch it, as i knew he couldn't have known her very long, yet RTE probably gave him a 5 figure sum to appear, and talk some shít.

As for Michaella's "Ex-Boyfriend" - Someone said 5 days? That's just a long weekend.. Not even a week.

So he didn't get a 5 figure sum, but he got something, worst of all, he got airtime telling people (According to half the above indo link) that she was innocent/feel sorry for her/she doesn't deserve this/she didn't touch drugs/she was forced..

Who the hell decided to get him on the show?

    Barely.

Why didn't any of her real friends/family go on the show?

    Because they wouldn't.

Girls i've been with for a long weekend on holidays wouldn't know anything about me.

    EDIT:

And they DEFINITELY wouldn't know enough about me to go on a Television Talk show and blurb out a profile summary of me... Jeesisss.

What has seemed amazing to me is the way I have seen them brought to the various court hearings. Car parked outside, and walked across the pavement and up the steps by a couple of female cops, whilst being impeded by a scrum of journalists. Technically, if the Big Boss of the kidnap syndicate wanted them taken out, it's not like it would have been that difficult, a sniper across the street, or a hitman on a motorcycle. Of course, that is if Big Boss actually exists ...

'Big Boss' exists, as in, there was someone that organised it, but nobody was kidnapped. But the biggest boss involved in it, would be equal to a slightly more organised street dealer.

The big guys use Boats, Submarines, Private planes (on a smaller scale), and pay off everyone possible inbetween.
The amount the girls were caught with, compared to them, would be comparable to how much you would care if you had just won the lotto and lost a penny. (not a lucky penny).

More like a Nordie Shore. Like them lot what is in that Boots ad, when they all dance, and apparently everyone without a tan is supposed to be the ones what look stupid.

Exactly...it was Amatuer Night from start to finish,a small consortium using two mules on a kamikaze mission.

They didnt even get primo coca from Peru, they got some stepped-on rubbish which further proves they werent dealing with anybody in the big league.

I wonder what the Nordie Ambulance Chaser will say after the girls are inevitably sent to prison?

I can't imagine he'll eat a bit of humble pie and warn others not to attempt to smuggle drugs...most likely he'll start gasbagging about the unfairness of thier legal system and have a dig at the prosecutor too.

Then he'll slink off back to Limavaddywaddy and continue running his "practise" whilst basking in his own importance.

Sentencing is later today. According to the bbc the judge wants them to confess in full and take responsibility to have any chance if a reduced sentence.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out. Again, I wonder why Melissa said she had "done a deal" that would see her plead guilty but be able to claim that she did not do it for money and to hold on to her coercion line. That seems to be gone by the wayside now.
Lost in translation perhaps? Wishful thinking?

i'd doubt it me thinks the peruvian lawyer is provided by the justice system over there to all foriegn nationals as per course, the nordie guy set-up the fund for his flights etc and is he doing it pro-bono? maybe im wrong could trigger happy shed some light on this topic ?

I wonder will we get to hear what was said in the court - i.e. whether they take full responsibility and drop the whole 'coercion' thing - or will we just be told what they were sentenced to...
