collecting tree seeds

Was wondering when best time to collect seeds from trees as want to replant some old trees that are startint to die and would like to use the best trees to collect seeds from.Tyey are on trees at moment but should i wait till they mature abit or till they fall thanks in advance.

Mostly October, maybe into November, depends on when we get first frosts.

Watch out with stands of beech as they only produce a good crop of mast every few years. Sycamore and Ash probably have seedlings about 4-6 inches high nearby so if you keep an eye out for them now, mark them and transplant them into pots etc. when they go dormant. Won't guarantee what tree they came from, but you'd be a year ahead.
