Apparently Joe Duffy is 65 next January. Will he go quietly?

Is he staff or contractor? I think the retirement issue is only there for staff. Plus aren't they changing that rule anyway?

Contractor. Claddaghgreen Ltd. Poor chap gets no holiday pay or pension. He'll have to stay on till he's 80.

I think it should be re-named.
Little point in having Sean's name on it when he is gone.

Maybe rename it and keep it going until Sean's permanent replacement is announced? I think the new show should have its own thread when the time comes.

They might go with a working title until the permanent person is announced.
    Agree re. thread.
By the way if any mods reading Ciara Kelly thread should be re-opened.

I'll not be tuning in as regularly then.

But at least its not Miriam ..... I wouldn't have tuned in at all in that case.

Any chance some innovative person in RTE would come up with a new theme tune for the show as the current one is still that used in PK's days?

You'd need a committee for that and lots of meetings..

Bit of a stilted start to this morning.

Her voice puts me to sleep.

Bit bland really. Not sure that she could ask the hard questions when needed!

    Actually, very bland.

Sounds like its turning into RTE's version of Woman's Hour. :)

    I'm off to Pat Kenny.

    Yeh, I agree.
No problem letting her settle in...but she will need to let off some fireworks as I am finding myself zoning out. It's not a 'voice made for radio', that's a bit ominous tbh,

I like Sarah McInerney. I hope she does well.

We agree on something Francie....a first ?

Not a voice for Radio...although the experts in Montrose obviously do not share your view. ?

See below ..I think "The Nev" gave another correct call !

Nah! McInerney much too lightweight...no gravitas ...just a shrill voice trying too hard .

Not good enough in this posters opinion...

Sorry to ruin our great new consensus there Nevin...but 'shrill' she is not. That's just a good auld sexist putting down of a woman. Sean O'Rourke was multiple times more shrill than her.
And she has too much gravitas...she needs to less serious. But I would imagine that will come as she relaxes a bit.

Mcinerney replacing o'rourke, culchie replaces culchie, wheres the diversity... not good enough rte... boo

Have to agree (kind of) there Prionsias, she’s not shrill.... just monotone.

Sean O Rourke was not shrill.

She has not got too much gravitas, not at all, she is a bit tense ,will loosen up in time.

‘The Nev’ as he calls himself has good points but I felt today Sarah was very monotone, but as I always do,Francie ,I give people a bit time to bed in.

    Gravitas:
dignity, seriousness, or solemnity of manner.

Which is precisely how she comes across. Intensely so imo.

    Same as:

No she doesn’t , just dull and monotonous.

You are mixing up Martin Luther King and Richard Nixon.

I am just in love with her voice. If Mary Wilson announced that Putin had just set-off WW.III. I would yawn and change channel, whereas if Sarah announced it I wouldn't even bother looking for the iodine tablets, I'd just sit back and enjoy the last few minutes of the voice. :D

MOD - I think I will wrap this thread up and open another in honour of the intermediate host.
