Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Paul Murphy really gets on my goat!!!!! Piss off and go pay your way Murphy.
It's laughable hearing Murphy going on about the 'establishment' Is this the same establishment that made himself and Joe Higgins very wealthy men?

I would tend to disagree, it's people who were taken in by their insidious and outdated 'policies' and didn't look below the rhetoric and cant, and see the way they expect the hardworking taxpayer to foot the bill for everything. It was those who raised these people to position they are in now.

There are others in the same boat, a large percentage of whom have the safety net of the State job to fall back on when the paucity of their politics is finally laid bare.

I missed the beginning of this discussion. He skirted around that question alright. When he speaks in relation to water leaks about first fix or a second fix is he talking about council house property or private house property ? I'm a bit old fashioned at times and call my water bill my 'water and sewerage' bill harking back to the days when I paid it to the county council.

A few of my friends who are anti water charges and still call me an ejit for paying my water bill say they would have no problem paying the seweage charge but stick to their guns regarding the water charges. Half a loaf is better than no bread as they say. It would be interesting to know how many on the anti side would consider paying sewerage charges only. I'm assuming the 'wastewater removed' on Irish water bills refers to sewerage. Even saying the word brings memories of a blocked sewer and the pong that lingers in the nose for a few hours.

This row over county boundaries between Waterford & Kilkenny is utter nonsense. I never heard such crap. There's far too much emphasis on counties in this country and anyone who lives near a county border knows that it bedevils all sorts of public services, even down to who can collect your bins. If I had my way, I'd reduce the number of local authorities in this country to a half dozen. That's all we need. Less borders & fewer politicians, better all round for citizens.

You and I might think so, but you would be surprised at the emotions that are attached to what are, after all, Brit-imposed boundaries.

I'm surprised that you "never heard such crap" - there was equal amounts of wailing and gnashing of teeth when it was proposed to re-draw the Clare boundary to give parts of it to Limerick.

Same when they tried to put the Roscommon side of Athlone into Westmeath.

Proposed bus strike is now being over hyped by the media and usual interests. People will make alternative arrangements. The bus may be convenient in rural Ireland if it passes near you but nearly everybody also needs and uses a private car.

I honestly can't understand why RTE use her so regularly. At the very least she should register all potential conflicts of interest before he offers an opinion on anything.

Is this the one ye're talking about?
If you come here you'll find no mass grave, no evidence that children were ever so buried
    which is interesting given that:

Significant quantities of human remains have been discovered
in at least 17 of the 20 underground chambers which were examined ... These remains involved a number of individuals with age-at-death ranges from approximately 35 foetal weeks to 2-3 years. Radiocarbon dating of the samples recovered suggest that the remains date from the timeframe relevant to the operation of the Mother and Baby Home.

The Commission is shocked by this discovery and is continuing its investigation into who was responsible for the disposal of human remains in this way.

I'd say Alan Shatter is absolutely livid that his big 'Enda has a casual relationship with the truth' interview has been largely ignored by the media because they're too busy covering the Tuam Babies story and the NI Elections.

He probably thought that the interview would heap pressure on Enda and it might force him into leaving office early. I'm not a fan of Enda's but his spokeman completely killed off the story when he/she reminded us of the content of Shatter's resignation letter which described the Taoiseach as "extraordinary" and doing an "extraordinary job" during a very difficult time for the country. Ouch, Shatter must be licking his wounds today.

Yes indeed, except for one thing, Alan Shatter has admitted that he meant them in a positive way at the time of writing his resignation letter but has since changed his mind about Enda Kenny.

    Listened to show yesterday (podcast).

Alan Shatter comes across as very bitter. It's telling that he has/had the support of pretty much none of his own PP. Suggesting he's the victim of Jewish stereotypes is ridiculous too.

Babs Keating (re. GAA moving All Ireland Sundays) is stuck in the past, had to skip him.

Terry Prone is a creep. I don't get why they have her on - especially when she said that "she doesn't speak for the Bons, but her company does". It's one and the same when all you do is act as a public face for the communications clinic.

Not a huge fan always of Micheal Martin but he's talking sense there this morning re N.Ireland and the issues around border polls and what a future new relationship might look like between both parts of the island. Encouraging to hear him say, that we have to give up the 'fourth green field' notion and look at it in a way that allows all parties to contribute. I say this because you often get the idea from SF etc., that they're slavering at the mouth over the prospect that some day soon they may carry 50.1% of the vote against 49.9% of the other side.

John Murray was covering for Sean O Rourke and had the bad luck of being given the job of interviewing Jack O Connor of Siptu.
Long time ago I used to have a lot of sympathy for the principle behind Unions.
But anytime I hear one of Ogle (right to water), Doran (nurses), or any of the transport union leaders, I realise how foolish that was.
John tried to keep the interview on track- whilst O Connor held court. He had the air of a man saying "aren't you lucky to be interviewing me". few times John tried to get exact answers on what Jack was proposing to which Jack hummed and hawed as if to say, "boy- don't tire me with these facts"
Another blast of recession and we can hopefully knock the cockiness out of these boyos.
By the end you realised John was simply trying to do his job- and at same time, indulge and cater to the Union leader. A situation any of us who ever worked in a unionised job are familiar with!

Given Ogle's record,he is just waiting for the next bandwagon to come along.

Jaysus - 500 quid in one day. Assuming a fiver a pint that's 100 pints. Assume a not-too-slow rate of four pints an hour, that's 25 hours drinking in one day.

    Some performance.

Correct and right, why be gouged for €5.20 a pint when you can sit back and suck on a Baltica5 in your own home for around €1.80 ?

    No brainer.

Were you listening to the same report that I was listening to? Most of them said they put away a few quid a week during the year so they can enjoy themselves for the 4 days of Cheltenham without (presumably) enduring penury by the end of it. Some people's idea of a good time is being fried alive on a beach in the Mediterranean for a couple of weeks. Other people prefer to have the pints, the craic and a few bets for Cheltenham. Different strokes for different folks and all that.

They should fire the feckers and rehire them if they apply, for a tenth of the wages they're accustomed to.

If they try to double the licence fee, I think you'll find even law abiding citizens looking twice at paying it.

I thought that Coppinger's visa didn't allow her to discuss matters south of the Liffey. That's RBB's bailiwick.

However, there's absolutely nothing to stop the Socialist Party/AAA/PfP/Solidarity/Momentum/Whatever You're Having Yourself Today Party from submitting a tender to purchase the property.

Them if they're successful they can build a halting site, a kibbutz, high rise tenements, a brothel or a five star hotel on the site, subject to planning permission.

It's a negotiating tactic, just like the Luas Divers used!

You look for an increase of X% then, after months of haggling, you end up being offered an increase of 0.X% with certain added smokescreens to make it appear that you got more. You accept the offer and everyone goes away happy. It's how we do things in Ireland, Gawd bless us!

I think there would be very little appetite for a licence fee increase from the "hard pressed licence payers".

I would suggest that that is a non runner..

Was very surprised to be told that there was a 19% value on non payers.

One in five don't pay, time to shine a light on these, force them out from the shadowy world they seem to live in.

major bad move putting cormac in there. i love the guy from the late debate (which he nearly introduced the show as today by accident :) ) and he could end up doing a "charlie bird" on his wages as i cant see cormac fuking this up.

be a natural successor to the man IMO and with RTE low on the aul cash someone could be getting a pay cut.

I'm a huge fan of the cúpla focail - but his pronunciation (aka mangling) of "r"s (Éireann, Dún Laoghaire are the two I've just heard him saying) I find INTENSELY annoying.

When he's not at that I find him to be a great presenter, esp on the Late Debate - he's well able to conduct the hard interviews.
