Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

He redeemed himself by giving a very sympathetic ear to the demon drink ladies.

During the TV review John Boland had the temerity to criticise Nathan Carter's generic voice. He was soon put in his place. He must have forgotten he was on RTE where NC is the current flavour of the year.
Funnily enough, they were talking about Nathan Carter on Arena the other day. It was kind of the opposite, with a lot of (generic) anti country-music snobbery on display.

S'OR not at his best this morning with the women. Fairly put his foot in it with a rather brutal opening introduction to Una Butler, I'm sure she would have preferred not to hear his tabloid style into about her husband strangling her daughters. Insensitive at best.
Didn't hear it, but it sounds like the perils of reading off a script that was written when the unfortunate woman wasn't sitting next to him.

Jeepers, the shameless gore/gossipfest on now about the Molly Martens case.... you can almost hear that journo licking his lips at the gory details

    Unedifying at any time.
Unforgivable during the holiday period when small ears are more likely listening.

Had to turn it off..... pure tabloid muck, I'd have expected better from the producers of that show, and from Damo.

Phoning it in across all platforms until the turn of the year.

    Pointless even switching on.

Cant believe they let Damien O' Reilly cover on this programme , no offence to the lad but he has his niche in the farming and covering Joe Duffy ... but current affairs ?, he's like a deer caught in the headlights.

At least he pulled up the lottery woman on where the unclaimed prize money goes. A lot of the others would have let that go.

Today is my first day listening to him - like him anyway but I thought he was good on the show.

he posed the question but didn't follow it through, she said in reply ' thats a question for another day ' and he just let it go, so I wouldn't really call that ' pulling her up ' in fairness.

He wasn't remotely able for the politial round-up of the year - turned into a party-political broadcast / shouting contest very quickly. Complete waste of 20 minutes (or however long it was on, I had to switch over before my ears started to bleed)

I heard the podcast and was unprepared for the graphic details of the crimes. Was there a pre warning before the podcast began. The content was horrific

I just can't believe this: the Banks actually STOLE from people and they seem to be completly above the law. If that lady went into her local bank & lifted a bundle of money off the counter she'd be pursued by Gardaí and would be facing a judge yet the bank can blithely steal on a massive scale and no-one calls the Gardaí!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

It’s outrageous alright but not sure why it’s so hard to believe. Just as well we have proper regulation of these thieving banks nowadays!

The real scandal of the Tracker Mortgages case is the exorbitant Standard Variable Rates being imposed on Irish consumers.

I must confess that it sticks in the craw a bit to see those in arrears getting compensation, whereas those who struggled through and paid in full, get nothing.

Absolutely despise this hypocrite. Pleading for the rights of de poor workers on one hand, and creaming off 125K as union leader on the other.

Certain interest groups would like nothing better than to have a representative of the workers going around with the arse out of his trousers.

Given the option, I'd say most of the workers would prefer it as well, rather than having to pay dues towards him getting four times their wages. I think the so called socialists in this country earn more than the capitalists.

Just listened to Paddy O'Gorman at the courts. 2 things annoyed me:
    1. Everybody talking about fines/etc say pounds, not euro. Including young sounding people. Why?
    2. Why can't/don't they apply attachment orders on social welfare payments for fines, instead of this charade of 3 month prison sentences that last all of a few hours?

1.The poor have so little money it doesn't matter what they call it?
2.You are right the revolving door jail for fines system is idiotic. It actually costs
the State money. Even if they took €5 a week it would be better.

They still seem to have a few ‘pound’ to drink in the middle of the day, in fairness.

I suppose not, but based on O’Gormans reports, seems a lot of the legal folk squeezing a nice little wedge out of John Q.Taxpayer.

That, plus Garda time, expense, etc I would be inclined to take a less benign approach than your good self appears to.

Kinda rankles on you when you are getting up early.

    I know what you mean.

Paddy O'Gorman is a modern day Charles Dickens. He gives a great insight into life as it is lived for a certain section of society.

I agree with you about the legal system. Common sense is a very uncommon element in our courts.

Try not to feel too bad. You are on the right track getting up and making something of your life. The guys hanging around the pubs and courts will lose out in the long run and that is their tragedy.

I had a couple of pints with Paddy when he was "off duty" recently. Some of the stories he had that couldn't be broadcast were unreal. These tales included observations on judges, defendants and their representatives.
What we hear on the radio is nothing.

    Interesting to hear.
Paddy is gold dust but I get the feeling that Sean O'Rourke is a little bit uneasy with the slot.

I dunno - I suppose it's just like Irish people butchering English placenames - like Hunstanton or St.John etc.

I think only those truely convicted to the cause (either side) stay tuned and they ain't for changing.

I'm with Brendan. Thankfully we live in the time of internet radio.

The sooner they hold this referendum and get the issue out of the way one way or the other, the better. I'll be burning through my data listening to anything other than FM radio this year...

Abortion as a political issue has been around for over 30 years. People have had plenty of time to think about it and make up their own mind. Those radio debates bring out the worst in both sides and it makes for horrendous listening.

This referendum is a very serious issue and I would urge everyone to pay as much attention as possible to The Sean O'Rourke Show and all other forms of media over the coming months.
