I would disagree, if the ball stays on the floor he is a liability, has been for years. Good when the ball is lumped in from long and high but thats it. Gets exposed so often on the floor, no pace, going back years he has been a liability.

Feck's sake....they serve up that garbage on the same day Bale leaves. I can't say I'm surprised as they haven't been exactly carving out lots of chances in the two previous games.

Lloris is a shining light however.

I have an update on Capoue:

He is currently undergoing an X-Ray but even so it doesn't look good. Seems to be a broken fibia (broken leg)

    Fibula!

He still will be out for a good while he has to have done some damage with the pain he was in.

daws is a problem with AVBs style of play, rose isnt good enough and neither is walker. problem solved when kaboul comes in for daws, but the full backs could be a big issue.

I'd give Rose time, bit of a bad boy attitude (similar to Walker) on the field at times giving away silly free kicks, but he's got pace to burn and can put in a decent ball. I believe he'll improve if the manager sticks with him.

Vlad can play LB if all else fails. Walker's delivery was poor all day and generally crap, if he didn't have pace on his side then he wouldn't be in the side.

It's early days, gonna be a bumpy season.

Utterly depressing yesterrday. As I've said 100 times now our whole game plan revolves around us scroing first and/or early. If we had scored in the first 15 minutes yesterday we would have won comfortably. The problem however is that the overwhelming majority of matches we play are going to be similar to yesterday.

Teams will not attack us nor should they when we are so toothless with the ball.

Gutted to get beat, but that's football.
Thought we did ok, but lacked a bit of sharpness going forward, Soldado had fcuk all support or service, hopefully Erkissinn or Lamela can fill that void.
Glad the window is nearly closed and the Bale thing is done, things can settle down now and hopefully we can kick on.
Kaboul will hopefully be fit soon and can partner Jan to add some pace to the centre of our defence.

Walker was probably our worst player 8 failed crosses and 4 mis-hit shots, Dawson/Chadli a close second. With the ball on the floor Dawson is a major liability, at one stage he got caught with the ball in between two Arsenal players, tried to turn and fell over, luckily Lloris palmed Giroud's resulting shot wide (super keeper!)

I'm not too surprised by a poor performance this early in the season and dropping three points at the Emirates is no biggy (except for bragging rights). I'm more concerned about the subs. Why were Holtby and Siggy left on the bench when Dembele was taken off, it was clear to me that the connection between Soldado and midfield was the issue. And again bringing Lamela on, he's only in the country two days, Hotlby has form from his last two outings. That said, Arsenal defended very well and finished the game with four full backs on the pitch.

Hopefully our new boys don't have to travel that far over the international break and get to settle into the squad before the Norwich game.

Walker drives me nuts!!..watching him live or on the tv crossing a ball ...same fcuking result!!....he can never beat the first man with a cross

He should be kept so far away from taking corners!!!!

Woke up this morn still wondering how Chadli lasted 90 minutes yday?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,910 ✭✭✭Sugarlumps

Agree on the subs, both Sig and Holtby would of busted there behinds with 20 minutes on the clock. Even Lamela must have been surprised with his inclusion in a NLD?

Chadli looked good for the first 10 minutes getting the better of Jenkinson then proceeded to do nowt.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,630 ✭✭✭golfball37

The big worry I have with Chadli is the lack of a left foot. Twice he was at the byline only to turn back onto his ight foot. I spotted the same thing in the Palace match.

Its shocking that a professional footballer cannot use both feet. I wouldn't pick him again unless it was for the right wing and we had nobody else available.

I thought we did ok, we certainly upped our game second half but we missed that creative spark to get the ball to Soldado. Hopefully Eriksen and Lamela should sort that. Lamela looked bright but sheepish, not sure if it was right to give him a run in an intense NLD. It would have been better bring on Holtby for Dembele and maybe Siggy for Chandli. Chandli was good first half, but had a very poor second. Paulinho needs to run when he gets the ball, not play it back slowing attacks. We badly need a LB today, Rose is the weak. Also, Kaboul needs to be starting instead of Dawson.

All looks good and fixable. This match is a good indication of where we stand and what we've to work on. We went on long runs of wins after the NLD last year, hopefully we can do the same now, it seems to point out our weaknesses. Onwards and upwards, COYS

I completely agree about Lamela and sheepish is the perfect word to describe how I thought he looked. That's possibly the most intense match to have you introduction and one of the more senior players could maybe have had a better effect. Still, it can only get better for him.

I feel it will take some time for these players to gel and adapt to AVB's style, and I think it will also take AVB a while to get to grips with every player and their best position, so I'm sure that's not the worst result we're going to have over the next few months.

Does anybody else think that having two wingers who cut inside and shoot is not ideal for Soldado??

Surely a winger getting to the byline and cutting it back to the peno spot or six yard box (where Soldado stands) would generate more goals?

Maybe when Lennon is back AVB could try Lamela on the left and Lennon on the right, with the idea of getting wide and stretching the opponent, thus giving Paulinho space to run in to and leaving Soldado some room in the box.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,946 ✭✭✭SuprSi

Very true, though perhaps he's hoping they'll cut inside and still find a pass? I'm sure all 3 players behind the striker will be asked to move around a bit so we'll see Lamela play across the park, along with Eriksen and anyone else (Lennon/Chadli/Townsend).

It's a combination of the fullbacks and wingers ovelapping that get down the line to cross. Yesterday Townsend was marked tight and Walker was the one given the space to run it to / cross..

Maybe Wenger knew this? For us Walker should be feeding Townsend as his final ball is good.

I'm not gonna bash up Chadli too much, he's only just joined the squad and needs to time to understand his midfield and fullback. He setup some great chances in previous games, inverted winger or not.

Etienne Capoue has this morning (Monday) undergone an MR scan which has revealed the midfielder suffered an ankle sprain against Arsenal on Sunday.

The recent signing from Toulouse was injured after 72 minutes at the Emirates Stadium and was immediately taken to hospital to consult with a Foot and Ankle specialist. Early indications suggest the France international will be unavailable for a period of four weeks.

Not too bad considering the two week international break.

Kyle Walker attempted eight crosses v Arsenal and did not find a single teammate. Brutal.
