I want to do a FETAC pre nursing course and also sit the aptitude test for CAO for nursing degree. Do you apply with your FETAC results thru the CAO also?
Is it possible to apply for the FETAC route to degree course and also as a mature student via aptitude test at the same time. ?

    Hope this makes sense!

Yes you can apply through both. You submit one application to CAO which covers both application streams. As you will have a FETAC qualification you would be assessed as a standard applicant and on your course choices section you use standard Nursing course codes. However as you are also applying as a mature students you also need to include mature course codes in your level 8 choices.

This essentially means you are applying twice for the same course. E.G General Nursing in UCD this year has the standard course code: DN450. The code for mature applicants is DN460. However they are the same course.

What this boils down to is an effective reduction in the level of choice you have in your courses. If you were applying as just a FETAC or just a mature applicant you can choose up to 10 nursing degrees. As you are applying through both streams you have to apply twice to the the same course which reduces your choice of nursing degree courses to 5.

As regards the FETAC route you need to double check the the FETAC course you are doing covers the mandatory modules for Nursing. These are:
    Anatomy & Physiology
    Introduction to Nursing
Human Growth & Development or Biology.

This year you needed 5 distinctions including the modules above to meet the minimum entry requirements for FETAC applicants.

Also to be assessed as a mature applicant you would also need to register on the website www.publicjobs.ie This registration usually takes place in mid February to early March and the assessment test usually takes place in late April.
