Horrendous connection problems for the past couple of weeks

I have been using eircom broadband for the past 12 years for 1 reason, for me they have always had the most stable and lowest pings. I have never been concerned with download speed so latency has always been the deciding factor.

The past couple of weeks I have been having horrible latency issues, an example of which I have just pasted below. This evening I received a letter in the post to tell me that I have just received a free upgrade from 8mb to 24mb and finally it all makes sense.

Am I correct in assuming my line is just completely congested now and unable to support everyone in my area suddenly having 24mb?

I did carry out a speed test btw, and I am still only getting 5mb at best. Even the tests are completely erratic however. Sometimes I get  as low as 0.5mb down.

I'm gonna jump on here as well and say that I've noticed a drastic decline in broadband speed over the lad few weeks as well, and I've only got 2mb

Hi, the latency issues seem to have resolved themselves since Sunday night.

Can you tell me when my line will actually upgrade to 24mb as it said in the letter?
