A thread for all discussion of alcohol, recommendations, etc.

    Mod Note:

I want to just remind everyone of the charter, specifically the ban on:

    • Telling people where to get fake IDs
    • Posting about where to get drink/get into a club if you're underage
    • Encouraging under age people to drink

We also do not need posts glorifying excessive drinking.

Posts of this nature will be deleted and you will be warned, infracted or banned as necessary.

    Danke.

Trying to decide what my beer of choice will be for the 1st few weeks of college. Dare I go posh with bottles of Heineken? Or do I go cheap with cans of Tuborg or Bavaria?!

    Who knows!!

cheap. the beer will last longer with the money saved. i expect you'll get about 3 days more :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,891 ✭✭✭iamanengine

Aye it makes sense alright. The plan is to go on a binge Saturday night, Sunday night and Monday night, so I'll need all the cans I can get my hands on :pac:

But on the other hand bottles go down so much nicer :(

I know i know, but sometimes we have to sacrifice the good. Like if you really want to be a posh lad, certainly be my guest. But it wont be a happy ending when your looking at the bottom of an empty bottle at 7.30

Koppaberg is mank, it's so sugary. I don't understand how people drink it.

Aspall cyder is where it's at (assuming you can find it)

Us super sophisticated people drink craft ciders none of this bulmers/kopparberg/druids crap. Rekorderlig is the only popular one I drink.

    This stuff is unbelievably nice.

    Mac-Ivors.jpg

As are most of the various weston's ciders. Om nom nom.

And Aspalls. Delicious delicious aspalls. I even have one of the goblety glasses in my kitchen.

can we please have a C&H Alcohol Recommendations Thread? Even if my impending move to college means I'm on something around Dutch's price point for a while...

I've never had a proper craft cider in my life, like :P

Where would one procure these ciders? The off-licences I've been in have had woeful selections of cider tbh.

The Celtic Whiskey shop in town (Dawson St to be exact) is where I would buy my good cider.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,776 ✭✭✭Jhcx

I'd rather be a Vodka drinker. It goes with anything. had someone telling me the other day try Vodka and Milk.... Eh... no thanks i like my milk they current state it is in.. has anyone tried that?

I'd go with cider as a 2nd choice, but it has a bad fight with my gut :(

Not at all, but I took a bottle of 80% back from holidays with me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,166 ✭✭✭Stereomaniac

Any time I ever had Absinthe it was the same story, I brought some back from Prague one time.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,891 ✭✭✭iamanengine

I swear some girl was trying to get me hammered one night by feeding me absinthe til I was f*cked. Then when I was like here you have some, she was like...nah....!!

As far as decent cheap drink goes Colm have you ever had Tuborg or Fosters? Relatively cheap but still a decent beer. 3 euro pints of Fosters in college bar, where would ya be goin!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,166 ✭✭✭Stereomaniac

Exactly. I always drank whatever was cheapest in the bar, before I retired. Fosters was the big one at the UCD bar. I remember being in Budapest a few years ago though and Tuborg was more expensive than the other beers that they had on draft. Everything else seemed to be locally produced and the Tuborg was seen as this high-end drink because it was imported!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,009 ✭✭✭✭wnolan1992

Absinthe is an evil, evil drink. I drank that my first week of college (bear in mind I only started drinking that week)... Never again. The taste was just horrific and it burned the back of my throat. :\

On vodka, I used drink loads of Kulov. €4/naggin in our nearest offie. It's paint stripper, but when you combine it with a can of coke and 4 cans of Druids, you can do your predrinking for ~€10.

Also, we can discuss more expensive stuff too. I mean just because ye're poor and can't afford anything above swill doesn't mean we can't discuss it. :pac:

Stonewell Cider, Bradleys in the city stock it! :D

Have to agree with whoever said to stay away from Tesco Vodka. It never ever ends well.

My personal preference is for Huzzar/Smirnoff with cranberry juice or Southern Comfort and blackcurrant. That's yum, although it can get a bit sweet after a while.

I never used to drink cider because even one glass would make me feel very ill but I recently tried Aspall Cyder and I've been converted. That stuff is so so nice! I think it's only available on tap in places that do craft beers and such (Crafty Fox/Mickey Martins that I know of for any Limerickans here) but it's not that expensive.

ps. am I losing my mind or did we have a thread like this not that long ago?

Tequila gets me everytime, the last time I was out they were only three euro so I had five of them (I know, I know) and was walking around/dancing/chatting for ages being all 'I'm not drunk at all, why isn't this having an effect on me???', found a video on my phone the next day that I took of some random guy in Supermac's eating some chicken. :/ Not really sure how that happened tbh.
