New modem problem.

So I posted this to 'Computers & Technology' and got no reply. But I have found out it must be a broadband problem, rather than something wrong with my pc.

I received a new modem from Eircom, a Zyxel D1000.

All was well for a while but suddenly Twitter started loading very slowly. Now I can barely get on and pictures on the website do not show up. I don't use Tumblr but that will not load either. It is happening on my phone, ipod and other laptops belonging to family members.

I have reset the modem numerous times, tried other browsers and cleared my cache. No luck.

All other websites I browse seem to be fine. I am really at a loss here.

    Appreciate any help. Thanks.

No, they need to run on your end, not on Pingdom's server.

Okay. Sorry about that. What about pinging it in command prompt?

    Basic connectivity all seems fine.

If you're using firefox, try activating the web developer -> network panel, and then loading the site.

Nope. I'm using Chrome. I tried it on FireFox, IE and Opera and still the same story.

    I'm perplexed.

    What about trying different DNS?

  • Registered Users Posts: 115 ✭✭Lyrical

Might not be the same solution but I encountered the same problem when I upgraded to NGB with eircom last year I was only getting 1mb speeds.I rang them up and the tech support guy told me it's a common occurrence with the Zyxel modems. I had to update the firmware of the modem (which you can download from the eircom website not too sure where you do that tbh) it worked like a charm afterwards.

I'm looking on their website and cannot find firmware for the D1000.

Call tech support, they'll do it remotely in two or three minutes.

Just off the phone with them. They asked me to do the usual; Turn off and on the modem, check the speed, use the ethernet cable, check the speed.

Speed is fine. It was always fine. They are sending out a new modem. Same model though.

    Can't see it working.

Sounds like the usual tier 1 script stuff.

Definitely. The girl was obviously lost and not sure what the problem was so I just took the new modem rather than being a dick about it.

It probably won't make a difference but you never know.
