I've been taking ac for 2 months now and currently have had no af on it? I usually get af every 6 week's and is extremely light and I mean very very light, specialists have said I could have pcos but have no symptoms of it other than irregular periods, scans have showed no cysts either, I'm currently 8 stone and 5,4 so by no means overweight, 2 week's into taking the ac I had all the signs of af arriving cramps and all but jus no bleed. I was extremely disappointed as me and bring have been trying to conceive for months and months, went doc 3 week's ago and neg pregnancy test, now my bbs are very tender and I don't know what's going on? Please can someone shed some light on this for me? :(

    Do another test.

i have irregular periods. i have used B6 to regulate them (quite sucessfully)

I had regular period for the last 6 moths, my period was due on the 24th July but never came.

i tested every second day until the i got a postive on the 16th August.

there is a possibly that you werent pregnant when you got the blood tests but you could be now.

    Hi Niamh,

I used to take agnus castus, you only take it until you ovulate, so if you had a 28 day cycle, you would take till day 14. I didn't find it great, I used it for 3 months.

    Has your GP started tests?

    Hi
Thanks for replying, well doc results showed that I dnot ovulate so I thought ac would help me with this? So even though I mightnt ovulate I only take it up to then?? Should I stop taking ac or contuine for the 3 rd month, maybe it hasn't kicked into my system yet? It's def doing something though, I get pains that can only be describes as my ovaries waking up,
what did ac do for you?

I found agnus castus shortened my cycles considerably. It's very strong. You are not supposed to take it after ovulation because it is tetragenic I think? So it can cause a miscarriage or damage any baby conceived if you take it at the wrong part of the cycle.

I'd be very careful taking things like these without medical supervision. What next steps did your doctor suggest?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,582 ✭✭✭stickybean

I have an irregular cycle, I took it for 14 days then stopped each month, it did shorten my cycle.

I would suggest you get some OPK (ovulation predictor kits) you can get them in bulk for very very cheap and then can help you work out if and when you ovulate, alternatively you can using the temping method or monitor your cervical muscus, this might help you work out when you ovulate and also when to stop taking.

But as pwurple said check with you GP / fertility specialist!

If you are not ovulating and are attending a fertility specialist they may put you on chlomid, this often helps people to start ovulating.

    Best of luck pet x

agnus castus or other supplements are not recommended to be taken during a course of clomid.

OP why not just go get the proper medication that will help you ovulate instead of over-the-counter herbal things that by the sounds of it, are messing with your cycle. You don't know that the pains are ovulatory until you get your follicles checked out with an ultrasound. I'd be concerned that the herbs are thwarting your efforts to conceive more.

At least with a clomid cycle you should get scans that confirm to you if you ovulated and even how many eggs.

    OP, take another test.

I have very irregular periods, i used B6 & B12 to regulate them quite succesfully. I have also been taking Angus Castus.

My period was due on 24th July it never came. I had day day 3 and 21 blood test in July which showed i had not ovulated that month.

I continued to test every second day, and finally got a positive on the 16th August.

You may have ovulated late. Just test and see.

I did 3 months of the pill followed by clomid first time I got pregnant, and follicle tracking for this pregnancy. I have variable cycles, very hard to track the ovulation otherwise. Agnus castus messed me up for about 3 months. It was one of the things I tried, but it didn't do much except confuse me and mess up my cycles.

Euromedic and places like that do follicle tracking. It's just a scan, nothing invasive.

My doctor didn't even know what ac was!! The herbalist in the shop put me on a.Vogel ac drops today she said they work faster than the tablets do, my prob with taking a test is that I havent has af in 2 months of being on ac so what are my chances of getting a positive?? Very slim I reckon!! Even though part of me feels pregnant, tender bbs, etc.
My endocrinologist sais she won't start me on Clomid until we're actively trying 1year+ even though we have been having unprotected sex for well over a year now(sorry tmi) I'm so frustrated at it all its ao upsetting, thank you for all your comments, nice to know I'm not alone in this.

On the same boat here. Periods became irregular after gallblader removal surgery 8 months ago and quiting smoking with champix. We are trying for a second baby, but my periods became so irregular that sometimes they don't start at all if not induced by medicine. GP put me on the pill, during the first month I have put on 8 pounds and said no way. Gynecologist put me on duphaston. Worked the first month, during the second month i started spotting in the middle of the cycle and since than no periods. Last period was 27th July. I am lost, should I continue the pill for three months with hope to regulate the cycle or should i wait.

Betty Draper, for how long did you have to take b6 and b12 to regulate the cycle?

Niamh 1990 did your GP refer you to see the endocrinologist? Or have you gone privately? As far as i know this specialist is the one who deals with hormones. May be I should ask to be referred as well...

    Hi ladies,

I started AC & OPK mid cycle day 56 (8 August) of cycle, i got af day 71 (23 August). I continued to do both AC & OPK everyday and got a negative OPK everyday, on day 24 of cycle (15 sept) i got AF, at 1st I thought was spotting or discharge but its not its def af.

I didn't ovulate so I think I will only take AC this month till day 14 & stop. Any suggestions?

    Thanks

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,582 ✭✭✭stickybean

Just becasue you didn't get a positive OPK doesn't mean you didn't ovulate. The LH surge (which happens when you are about to ovulate), sometimes the surge last only 8 hours, so you could have missed it.

Look out for other sign such as increased cervical mucus, particular egg white cervical mucus. You could also try the temping method.

If you are concerned you are not ovulating, you can ask your GP to conduct day 3 and day 21 bloods.

It is important not to take AC after you ovulate as it can lead to MC.

    Take care xx

my doctor referred me to the endocrinologist, if been going there over a year now ans it's endless blood tests,
Was at endo yesterday and she said she can't encourage me to take agnus castus as they don't know how it works, I just said it's giving me more hope than ye are,
Can anyone tell me on your fertile week and just before ov do you get mild stomach cramps? If I get a 28 day cycle this month, then I should be on my most fertile week this week and ov should occur on Sat. But I don't know if this is ovulation or not?
Anny_ap have you done a test? U shouldn't have spotted half way through really on the pill? Esp if u haven't had af since?
    Xx

Thank you for that info stickybean. I have been to the doc she said to leave it until October to start the testing (or go back to her in october) so I will contact her again to arrange. I never knew that about the LH surge I must not have researched properly.

Hi Niamh , I did test but its negative, I have no idea whats going on with my body. I have a GP appointment on Thursday, I will insist to do blood test again to test the hormones, infections, whether I am ovulating or not. I have gone to do a scan privately recently and I know for sure that I am fine, no PCOS. But somehow I feel she will try to put me on the pill again for few months. Has your doctor ever suggested to put you on the pill?
Having read so many posts and forums regarding irregular periods and ovulation, yes many women do get cramps at the time of ovulation plus they can get discharge as well.
What endo suggests to do? What blood tests say? I mean have they identified whats wrong?

How did u get on with your doctor?
I was on the pill for 4 years to regulate them and when I first went to endo they told me to stop taking pill and then we started blood tests,
If your doc insists you start the pill again my advice would be say no. Alto of doc put you on pill to regulate your af, but really it's just covering up something thats not right, I wish I hadnt got on the pill all thoses years ago, my problem could have been sorted by now.

I would stress to your doc that u want an app wwith endo. I havnet found alot out since going to them, but it's better than not going,
I have continued to take ac after day 14 because I dont know if I inoculated this month or not but I have very bad cramps at min,

Just on this, we were trying two years, and my cycles were very irregular. My GP put me on microlite for 2(i think?) months, and instructed me to take it at exactly the same time every day. To the minute... use an alarm clock. I did this and when I came off it my cycles were regular for the first time in years. We did follicle tracking and blood tests (again advised by GP) for 3 months then to pinpoint ovulation exactly, and conceived on month 3.

So, it can work to go on the pill and off again. It did for me.

    Hi Niamh
So here is an update. GP was very helpful, and offered full health screening (blood tests to check everything incl STI screening, urine tests ). She did not insist on the pill which I am glad about. So next week I will do all the tests and we will take it from their. She mentioned that if all tests are fine than we can just play the waiting game and give the body a chance to regulate it itself. But since we are planning a child I don't really want to play those games as it can take ages for the body to come back to balance I believe. It is hard to make a guess right now.... but I hope that we will be able to spot the issue. I don't believe that periods can be missing without a reason. There must be something wrong. I dont know if it is applicable to your case, but she said it is important to reduce level of stress as stress can mess up hormones big time, and if you have extra pounds get rid of them as fat cells increase the production of specific hormone and it messes up periods as well. Keep me updated. It is great to talk to a soulmate

So glad u got on good in doctors, did u get your tests done? I don't believe that either that periods can be missing for no reason, I am still taking my ac, and due af on Sat, day after my bday, what a great present it would be if I got my positive test I'm praying and hoping for every day. Even if I get af on Sat I will be happy because that means the agnus castus is regulating them from 6 weeks down to 4.
Did the doctor say he/she would send u to endo if ur tests show up something?
I have to wait until January for my next app. Only dowbfall of endo they send u away for blood tests and u can be waitimy 3-4 months to get seen again.
No weight to be lost- just under 8st and 5ft4. Thought maybe It might be cause I'm slightly under weight that might be a problem, but doc doesn't think so. No matter how hard I try I can't seem to put on any!! Please do let me know how u get on, really good to know we're not alone
Sending u lots of baby dust xx

Just an update, so tue night, I got what can only be explained as the worst pain in ever felt in my stomach back and shoulders, all tie night, went to doc wed and blacked out, was rushed to Hosp by ambulance , and had to have surgery, turns out I ovulated tue, but because I haven't ovulated in so long the speed at which my egg released burst a blood vessel in my right ovary, and ended up bleeding internally, I'm so fed up with this now :( this could have been our month bit with getting the surgery and all the egg was destroyed :( am very lucky as I had lost an awful lot of blood, they had to burn part of my right ovary to stop the bleeding but I was told it won't affect my fertility. So hopefully next month things will go my way, I only hope and pray anyways!!

So Sorry to hear that. I understand how upset you are. And the waiting game seems never come to an end. I hope you feel much better now. But to be honest I have never heard that ovulation can cause internal bleeding. Must be a rear case. I have an update as well. GP said that all my tests are normal, and her suggestion was to wait 3-4 months to see if period will regulate itself. I was not very happy with this idea, so I went to see gynecologist privately and took blood test report with me. Having done the scan he said I have PCOS, and that is the reason why i have no periods, weight gain, no ovulation. If i would have listen to gp i would just waist my time. And the most annoying thing is that gp has ultrasound machine but did not consider necessary to perform a scan. Gyno said he will start me on clomid next month, otherwice I need to go on the pill for 6 months to cure PCOS and only than start trying to get pregnant. Obviously I don't want to waste another half of the year. Did you ever get a scan done?

  • Registered Users Posts: 22 anny_ap

Oh and by the way after the visit to gyno, my periods started the next day :) Otherwice I would have to take duphaston to induce periods. I believe its a good sign that something has started balancing out in my hormone profile

Wow I can't believe ur gp didn't really follow it up, so ur going to go for the clomid? Ya 6 months is a long time and the pill mightn't even cure ur Pcos. :( ya I got a scan done in the hospital and they said I had no cysts and that I could just be one of them people that have irregular periods, my cycles are completely messed up. So don't even know when I'd ovulate again, they said it was very rare to bleed from ovulation like that but that it came happen to a percentage of people. What are u going to do for the Pcos? X

To be honest I think I will go with clomid. As you said there is no guarantee that pill will cure pcos, so realistically it is very indefinite, and even after 6 months of taking it i might end up taking clomid. If i would be you I would go for another scan to a different doctor. What happened to me I had THREE scans before the last one since May with different doctors, and no one has spotted that I have PCOS. And as I mentioned before blood tests were normal. The reason why I am saying this is that your endo could be running endless tests, but they me be inconclusive. May be you need another fresh view on it. I know it is very expensive, but may be worth it. Has your endo actually ever diagnosed you with anything? It is ridiculous that they are saying to you that your irregular periods are normal. I think they just can't rule out the real issue. Don't give up...
