Heading to Birmingham for weekend to Thomasland with 5 year old. Where is best to stay, cheap and cheerful. We will be using public transport too. Would it be good to stay at airport and get train to park? any advice greatly appreciated :)

You've got a long haul by public transport. Train into city centre but buses out there are (I think) far and few between. No chance you can hire a car? Much simpler.
