Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Last night wasn't a fair fight. With Neville being a coach with the England set up he could never be overly negative or critical of Lampard or Gerrard, all he could do was talk about Scholes' qualities.

If he had have talked about Lampard/Gerrard the way Carragher brushed Scholes aside, the media would be questioning his position as coach.

Ah of course. I'd forgotten he's involved there. Pity we can't hear what he really thinks.

It's funny to see England still overlooking their proper central midfielders and bashing their heads against the same wall as they've been doing for decades.

Just for anyone that isn't aware, the UEFA Youth League game vs Leverkusen is on Eurosport @ 3:30.

I was probably a bit too young back in the early 00s when Scholes was being criminally misused by Engerland but looking back at it now I cannot comprehend how they got away with it.

I think that's a good example as to why YouTube compilations of football player can be very deceitful. Not a bad wee player, but they always try to make them look like Zidane.

Manchester United U-19 team v Bayer Leverkusen: Gollini, Grimshaw, McNair, Ioannou, Rowley, Weir, Pearson, Rothwell, Pereira, Byrne, Wilson.

It puzzels me why jan was playing last night instead of today

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,080 ✭✭✭✭Maximus Alexander

I'd say it's because he's only a jumfleh and Moyes doesn't want to take any chances in a game of such importance.

Pearson Wilson and Sam Byrne the ones to watch for me. Shame I'm gonna miss this.

He wasn't named in the original CL squad but from Game 3 onwards he is able to become a part of it. So ineligible basically.

Came in early this morning so I could head off at 4. Will miss the first 10 minutes or so.

Looking forward to this competition though. Its kind of like the minor game in GAA!

Can someone help me out - is there now an U-19 Champions League that follows the draw of the senior competition?

Is the U-19 league competitive or just an initiative for youth development?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,752 ✭✭✭Thepoet85

1-0, Wilson. Terrible mistake by the keeper

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,949 ✭✭✭✭Mars Bar

United one up already. No idea what the keeper was at!

Seems to be a bit of both. Sounds like it's in it's first year so it's hard to know.

1-0 Wilson thanks to a keeper mess up.

Oh and the reason Januzaj isn't playing
Moyes confirmed that he was not registered for the main CL squad because in a few months he'd be able to be listed as a youth trained player for us in the future. If he was registered now he would basically become a "foreign" player forever

    Nicely done 2-0

Januzaj isn't allowed play for the club in the Champions League until the 7th of October becuase of the lenght of time he's been at the club.

Technically that's not correct. Have a look a few posts up.

He could have been registered. We chose not to.

For tonight I think we might see:
    ...................De Gea
    ....Valencia......Rio....Vidic....Evra....
    ...Nani...Carrick...Hairball...Kagawa/Giggs
    ..................RVP...Rooney..............

Kagawa is (most likely still) sick and Nani is suspended.

Was a poor mistake from one of the centre halves, went to clear the ball and completely missed it. Composed finish form Brasnic though who looks to be a good player.

    And.....................

Wilson scored it. Finished 4-3 to United, some terrible defending all round but it was hugely entertaining.

    And.....................

    Lol, sorry!

Wilson hammered it in even though the keeper went the right direction.

Looking forward ti seeing Fellaini. Missed the game at the weekend.

He'll cut inside a lot like Silva does. Not ideal but he'll have to make do.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,296 ✭✭✭All_in_Flynn

It looks like my excitement was premature and he's playing left wing :(

If he is to play regularly then he's gonna have to make the position his own as I can't see him pushing Rooney out. He's more than capable of playing from there and has done it brilliantly for both Dortmund and Japan. Cutting in and linking with Rooney and Rvp with Evra providing the width. He's not going to be playing left wing as such.

Anybody see Carragher being schooled by Neville on MNF last night as he tried to claim Gerrard & Lampard were better than Scholes?

Carragher just came out of the argument looking bitter & biased.

Just watched it. Carragher really did come across really badly and anyone not sure of the answer to that question (easy answer really) wouldve followed Neville's advice. It's fun having them rub off each other, but at this stage Carragher looks out of his depth beside Neville
