I would say the standard of education is as variable as it is anywhere else. Not better, not worse, the same. There is no school in this country has exclusively bad or good teachers or students, regardless of attempts with admission policies.

Obviously not exclusively good teachers, but is the overall standard of teaching higher than the average standard of teaching?

What places like Belvedere do offer, however, is a network of contacts, which is not available in all non fee paying schools.

If there is no precise means of measuring teacher performance, then the above question can never be accurately be answered. However, I think most people have an understanding that schools like Belvedere have good teachers, and good exam results. And that schools with good facilities, and a reputation for high teaching standards and results tend to attract good teachers.

Its probably even harder to quantify the effect of the "old boy network". Its not exactly politically correct to see it as a good thing, but people still believe in it exists and see it as a big advantage for their children.
