Blank screen

    My screen is blank when I power on my laptop. I am not particularly technically aware but is there a button I can press or any advice as to how to correct this woul be very welcome.

    What laptop is it? Make and model. It could be one with a video card that has failed (the Nvidia 8 series would be my guess :( )

    Hi, the PCM is a compaq presario cq61 if that helps. I think I may just have pressed the wrong button and locked the screen.

    had one of those models , Its an Intel GFX chip .

    Had a similar sounding issue , Had to open and re-seat the Video cable into its connector .

    could also be the lcd inverter .
