    Howdy all,

Theres been a bit of buzz here lately about Viking / Medieval Re-enactment..
Just spotted on FB that Déise Medieval are having an open night in the Crystal Leisure Centre on the 19th of sept.

"If you are interested in local history, medieval combat, historic and traditional crafts or finding out about an unusual hobby we would love to meet you in the Crystal Leisure Center function room. Details about the club, upcoming events and training will be discussed on the night as well as a combat demonstration."

Fighting, crafting, trading, eating, drinking and a bit more fighting..
Living history is a great hobby!

Hi 0rt you beat me to it!
On the 19th September Déise Medieval are indeed having their first open night.
    Venue: Crystal Leisure Centre
    Time: Times: 8pm-9.30pm

Our direction is simple: we look on medieval combat as a skilled sport and living history as a very social hobby.

Déise Medieval is only some 6 months old, but already we have forged strong links with other Irish groups and groups in the UK and Scandinavia. We are blessed to have a lot of experienced re-enactors and craftspeople in the group to offer advice and give training, and we have close links with other highly experienced folks. We're an amateur group and from the very start one of our core values is equality - all our members have an equal say. We welcome male and female fighters, crafters, and the simply enthusiastic. Waterford began its history as an international centre, and we hope to reflect this in the mix of nationalities in our group too!

To get an idea where we are going with this have a look here and see if it's for you:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=goR2Dl0B4ys . One of our fighters was in this battle and hopefully next year a lot more of us ... and maybe you.....

April 17th 2014 is the 1000th year anniversary of the Battle of Clontarf and a battle bigger than the one above is planned for Ireland. We hope to have a strong unit from Waterford to take the field. Historically the Hiberno-Norse of Waterford sided with Brian Boru and helped win the day.
Now is the perfect time to get your training started.
Here's our Facebook page, it will give you more information: https://www.facebook.com/DeiseMedieval?fref=ts. Some pics, videos there.

So .... if you would like an activity to keep you fit over the winter, or have an outlet for your creativity, and an interest in our history then why not pop down on the night?

If you're coming along to have a go with practise weapons/shields you should wear comfortable footwear and some leather/padded gloves.
