Are there ever Xterra type tri's held in Ireland? I did EiremanX last year which was fun, but was a bit amatuerish and doesn't seem to be on any more in any case. Or are Adventure races catering to that market (but without the swim)?

not exactly what you were after, but i was hoping to do this event this year, which unfortunately now isn't being run(see the top of the webpage)

I think Wales is the closest for Xterra

Cheers, seems to be the case alright. Pity, as we have some great mountain lakes and trails to host an offroad tri around. I wonder if there would be much interest? Maybe I'll try and organise something low-key through our Tri club (Wicklow based) next year.

I was just going to say, your club are probably ideally positioned to run an Xterra race, if you can get someone on board with little experience in this.

Xterra seems to be massive in Spain, although mountain biking in general is massive in any of the parts I've been in.

Apparently the Xterra race series is coming to Ireland next year. Someone from Outsider Mag just tweeted it.

Now that sounds interesting. My brother and a few mates have been on to me for ages to go to Ballyhoura with them. Might have a good reason to now. :D

The most difficult part of xterra is attempting to justify to your wife that you now need to add a mountain bike to the fleet

Why would you justify. You've a fine shed to hide it in ;)

now that would be superb, i had a mtb before a roadbike, and would love the chance to wheel it out for a race

I know a few on here are aware already, but Outsider magazine announced that there will be an Xterra race in Killaloe next year. Apparently it opens for registration in November

yeah, i did go a bit over the top about it on twitter, but when i heard it was confirmed, and not only that, but for my home town i was damn happy

It probably going to use the bones of the boru tri, which has an offroad uphill based run through a forest anyway. it's tough.

the idea of being able to roll out of my own bed to do this though is pretty cool, will be signing up for sure

Who are organizing it? A club? Any more info for non-twitter people?

nothing more than the confirmaiton by outsider magazine, and teh dates, july 19/20th

some more leaks. triathlon ireland posted a pic during the week on twitter, saying it was the view from transition for next years xterra event, but not saying where. the pic is also available here:

and i can confirm it's killaloe, given it's my home town and still live there. it's the same spot they use for the Brou triathlon every year.

given TI have now rolled in with a comment as well, i think it's fair to say this is going to happen.

how technical is the mountain biking likely to be lads.. if its not too bad id be tempted but if its very technical then maybe not.. mind you owning a mountain bike would be handy !

usually they are not too techniqual
at the same time that really depends on if the course is dry or wet, which would have a bigger impact on how difficult it is.

javier gomez i believe is the current x terra world champ and triathlon champ,so that might give some indication.eneko llanos has quite a few top 10 at xterra world champs.
So i guess you get downgraded by half to one level if you are a road tri specialist and have fair bike handling skills..

knowing the area, it won;t be too bad. unless they use the downhill track UL mountain bike club put together the rest is pretty tame
