It is live, in the intro, they knew the result of tonight's soccer game. No way of knowing if certain bits (like the ROG interview) are pre taped though.

I'm liking this, as someone else said here it's nice to see your non-traditional RTE heads being given a chance on the national broadcaster.

Cameras definitely need improving but that should come with time.

I like the mix of different sports too- I'd be a hurling person but would have a passing interest in all sports really so it's good that they touch on a mix. Always liked that about their radio show anyway.

    Is it live though?

Well, they were talking about the match earlier on at the intro, I assume it was....

I'd love to bin those couches....ROG is a very quite unassuming lad with a very funny dry wit............

Good to see. I hope this show gets all the sports people pencilled in for the late late. Tubs interviewing sports people is a joke!
Looking forward if they get some big foreign names in too.

Great respect for Rog as a player but he is painful to listen to :o

In fairness to him it is his personality and there's no bs with him

Place always goes silent when a legend speaks

Who said it was like Top Gear?

    They have a cool wall!

    :-D :-D

Pretty good so far. Hard to get a balance between general sport and recent matches, though they always nailed that balance on their other shows.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,569 ✭✭✭✭ProudDUB

They should make ROG do his interview in French. That would be a bit of craic. :P But otherwise this is incredibly painful to watch.

To be honest I expected more, like a bit of talk about the match today, a bit about the hurling and more topical stuff.............just my expectations I suppose...........

    It is live after all!

True, though Bill and the boys covered the match enough I think.

Did RTE ever broadcast that cancelled episode of ALF in 1990?

They could have had a few takes ready.

If it was live I would have expected more talk about the match, and the studio talk after. . (ie joking that Dunphy hadn't changed since the ninties)

I'd also expect more references to tweets.

Fair play to ROG, he is being brutally honest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,444 ✭✭✭✭Skid X

    This is a good interview.

I think ROG is being very candid so far...........

    Calling a spade a spade.....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 868 ✭✭✭Gerry91

Nice and honest in fairness, no PC bullsh*t. Refreshing to hear IMO

Keane ahead of O'Driscoll anyway IMO

And mayber McGrath and certainly Ronnie Delaney, who won an Olympic Gold medal in athletics, FFS.

Big fan of O'Dricscoll, but he's playing a minority sport, on a world stage: it's only played in any way seriously in about 8 countries and it's far from the biggest sport in most of those.

I find what he he saying interesting.

If you want to be 'entertained' maybe try Graham Norton :)

My favourite bits on the radio show, were always the first 30 mins of the show and the first twenty minutes of the Football Show, where Ken and Eoin would have a bit of fairly free banter. Hard to replicate, but I'm definitely enjoying this thus far, Eoin's a great interviewer.

No, I don't need to be 'entertained' as you put it. I just don't want to fall asleep during an interview. I don't think that is too much to ask of a TV talk show.

I actually like the crazy camera angles. They certainly are different, that's for sure. Or that may be just the 2 glasses of wine I've had talking...hic..:p

Thank God Tubridy isn't doing this interview.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,984 ✭✭✭✭kippy

Hard listen to alright in some ways but he has no BS, very few sterotypical comments, and coming out with some good stories.....

Like the show in general, will improve and it's hard to put as much time into different sports as they do on the podcasts.

good interview in fairness. ROG being truthful. McDevit is a good interviewer in fairness, always was.

    What's Murph there for?

Great interview with O'Gara, nice dry wit and very honest.Don't see a lot of that from sports stars on Irish TV.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,229 ✭✭✭LeinsterDub

No mention of the h cup. Reckon it was prerecorded

He is the Hank Kingsley of the operation.

McDevitt easily seems to carry over his interviewing ability from radio/podcast to TV. Really brought this ROG interview from what looked like was gonna be boring as hell to really getting into some interesting detail with him.

Agree. I think some people let the Saipan thing cloud their judgment about just how much Roy achieved for this country- his Utd stats speak for themselves obviously

However he brought us through a qualifying campaign v two of the world's best teams, unbeaten!

Seeing him limit one of the greats in Luis Figo was one the greatest performance I myself have seen in an Irish shirt

This has been fantastic so far. Murph has been hilarious and Eoin is an excellent host. No cringeworthy stuff so far.

Poor Jamie Roberts, ROG completely forgot him.

    Nah, this is live also.

    I can hear whispering

can anyone hear whispers at intervals?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,749 ✭✭✭✭grey_so_what

Yeah, you can see the pre-recorded stuff all right.......

I suppose you have to do that to get good guests.......that would explain the "sober" response from the audience if it is at 2pm in the day for example........

Fair play to ROG, I wish him well in RM..

Reference to early chat would suggest not.

    Maurice was a genius

Camera work is pretty crap . We shouldn't have been able to see Murph walking away from the sofa a minute ago .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,351 ✭✭✭✭Harry Angstrom

What about our triple Olympic gold medalist Michelle Smith???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,444 ✭✭✭✭Skid X

That Top 10 wall is clever - it'll be interesting to see what changes each guest makes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,569 ✭✭✭✭ProudDUB

This ripping off funny old RTE commercials and TV shows is straight from the Republic of Telly playbook. Just sayin' !

Clearly we should believe that he teleported across! They are going for a handheld shaky nighthawks type casual thing, it works a bit...

It's certainly not pre recorded. You people are nuts.
