Cheap Amp

    Hi folks,

I'm not entirely sure what I'm looking for. The optical input on my cheap Samsung DVD cum surround sound system has broken so I've now a set of speakers (which do the job I need) that need an amp of some description. I think it was a HDT-c something.

The speakers or 3 Ohm impedance - what ever that means

I need it to take a optical connection off the TV and preferably work with VIERA link as the more remotes, the more annoyed the wife gets.

Any help greatly appreciated - I'm grand with PCs but Hi-Fi stuff is a complete mystery.

PS my set up is simply a Sky Box and HTPC hooked into the DVD/Amp via Optical, don't need DVD it's just the system I had.

The DVD-Surround system you have is whats known as an "all in one package" and the speakers you have with it will not work safely with any standalone amp that you can buy. All they will do is overload the new amp and destroy it eventually.
The speakers in such packages are deliberately designed to work with that system and that system only !

Is there more than one optical input on the system. In other words do you have one that still works ?

If so you can buy an optical switch , something like this ....

...this will get you up and running again ,

Otherwise , all you can do is ditch the old system and get a new one.
