The motor is enclosed so I cant get to it, powered by 2 AAA batteries. It has a few different speeds that are controlled by a single button. The Motor is very weak even with brand new batteries (5%of total power ) but when I hit the unit on the fastest setting the motor speeds up and holds (50% of total power) once the speed button is pressed it reverts back to 5%.

This is a brand new unit so it should be working.

Are you using rechargables or alkaline batteries?

Any fear one of the batteries is a dud? It does happen.

Tried 2 new sets from 2 different brands. Can't understand why the motor picks up speed when the unit is struck. Once the setting is changed it reverts to approx 5% power.

Sounds more like a mechanical problem than an electrical. There is some friction going on there - does it feel hot?

If it works properly on one of the settings, then there is no problem with the power source.

What "setting" are you changing. Is it a pot? Maybe it's faulty?
