Tim Saccardo #communitywriter was tweeting some fairly awesome behind-the-scenes pics from Geothermal Escapism. I think the 'hot lava moves' is probably my favourite, I would love to be in that writing room

Why did they cut that?!

    It was perfect

Great send off for Troy. Abed's goodbye in describing how he had homing pigeon DNA in Troy's clone left me thinking if I had accidentally listened to "Come Sail Away" by Styx again.

Chang saying Nathan Fillion made me wonder, is he due to appear this season?
yep, he's due to make an appearance. the same episode will also see the return of brie larson which is great news too

    That was just brilliant.

Britta is quickly becoming the best character in the show again! Her knock knock exchange with Jeff was great. The episode was a fantastic send off for Troy too, I loved his little bit with LeVar at the end. Why didn't they call it planet trek?

Everyone is just being used so well this season, as opposed to last season where people were just paired off or ignored.

With the utmost respect to what Harmon has done so far this season, I think it's unfair to toss so much blame at gas leak year. Harmon was in charge for Season 3 and that was the season with the Dreamatorium and Emperor Chang. He was partially responsible for how poor the show went even before he was removed from it. I'm just glad he's reigning in his own stuff and bringing the show back to where it was in the first two seasons.

I loved the madness of season 3 but I agree that there was no way they could have sustained it. I actually didn't hate season 4, the writing staff was largely the same they just lacked direction but it was far from a car crash for me. The Halloween episode I particularly enjoyed and the body swap episode was very good. Anyway, we wouldn't have season 5 without the gas leak year.

I see what you're saying and agree that season 3 went a bit too wacky towards the end (although I loved that) but for me Season 4 was where the characterization just went totally off the boil. The group dynamic became practically non-existent for the majority of the season, with people being paired off into side stories that had no bearing on each other.

Are you referring to Troy and Britta? I actually think they handled it the best they could given the circumstances. It didn't come out of nowhere as it was clearly set up in season 3, however the writing staff had no idea what Harmon would have done next, what could they have done? Ignored it? I think in the first episode Jeff's reaction is something along the lines of "So this is a thing" which pretty much sums up the writers attitude. They never really made a big deal out of it, there was no drama like you usually get with sitcom romances.

I was reading the reddit AMA the writers did before season 4 aired and they were asked what was going to happen with Jeff and Annie and they basically said that they had no idea what to do because these were Harmon's characters and only he really knew where they were supposed to go. Supposedly, the writers room was completely split on how to treat it. It's a really interesting AMA to read actually, they couldn't even do a proper finale because it might be renewed and a lot of the staff had never worked on a 13 episode series before. Megan Ganz was very honest, she wrote the season 4 finale and she was very unhappy with it ... actually I'll go find the link because it really is a very interesting read.

Really enjoyed that, once again it's an episode of Community that's not all that loud out loud funny but it had its share of great lines and managed to be rather touching.

It does seem that the writers plan on bringing Troy back at some stage. I can see him popping up again in the next series though it's going to be interesting to see how Abed evolves as a character without Troy.

I can't really see Donald coming back again, unless it's for the movie, maybe.

504? Are they showing them out of order again or did they just insert one episode before this one?

ETA: I tried to post this three times from the phone and each time I got "Error 503".
Does boards know something about the episode sequencing?

Not out of order because this was Troy's last episode and he was set to be in 5. I think it's because the first two episodes were shown together

Filmed out of order, but they're being shown the right way.

I can see him popping up a year from now unless they decide to kill him off. It may only be for one episode but it would make sense for his trip to end where it began. If his upcoming show doesn't get a second series we may see him back sooner.

Upcoming show? He's leaving to focus on Childish Gambino I thought.

He's writing and starring in a new show for FX alright..
.. according to an article on Deadline that reveals Glover’s next major project – his own TV show. Atlanta will be a semi-autobiographical comedy based around Glover’s own experiences growing up in Atlanta, and will be set against the backdrop of the city’s music scene. The pitch was courted by several different networks, including NBC, but Atlanta eventually went to FX since the network offered Glover the flexibility he’d need to accommodate music tours into the schedule.

Glover will write, executive produce and star in Atlanta, though the actual name of the show may still be subject to change.

Over lunch there, I spotted the boxset of the first 4 seasons in a newly opened local entertainment shop - yet already shutting down (think they were selling surplus HMV stock) - for €60 minus 25% sticker = €45.

Was tempted.. but might see if it drops further.

Damn me taking advantage of recessionary times!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,159 ✭✭✭✭phasers

That's a great deal! I was looking at the 4-season box set in HMV for €60 the other day but I decided against it because I don't want to own season 4...

Remember listening to a podcast with Andy Bobrow few days after episode 1 of S4 aired (Think was A Bit of a Chat with Ken Plume) and it was hilarious - he was going on about how he made the mistake of following it live on twitter :p

Chevy Chase is trading community college for the hot ladies of Cleveland.

Chase will guest-star on Hot in Cleveland, marking his first television job since leaving Community, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Chase will play Ross Barkley, whom Elka (Betty White) turns to for an endorsement for City Council. To get his vote, she gets Melanie (Valerie Bertinelli) to go on a date with him, during which he reveals he's the sole survivor of a plane crash with a dark secret.

Chase recently signed a deal to reunite with his Vacation co-star Beverly D'Angelo for an ABC comedy being developed by Aaron Kaplan. The SNL alum left Community last season, but returned as a hologram version of his character, Pierce, in the Season 5 premiere.

Hot in Cleveland returns Wednesday, March 26 on TV Land.

Has anyone checked John Oliver's "New York Stand Up" on Netflix?

His guests are sometimes mediocre but his opening bit is always funny

The new Rick and Morty episode was class, as was last weeks one with the Mr. Meceeps. Loved the ending with the mazzy star tune, reminded me of futurama Fry's dog episode, a little existentially messed up.

Wow, Community is back, and good again. I've just watched the first three eps of season 5, but the Ass Crack Bandit one was one of the best I have seen. Just the right amount of bizarre, and well written, which can't be said for last season.

Life is better when Community is good. :)

OK, well obviously it's gonna take them a while to settle in without Troy. I enjoyed the stuff between Hickey and Annie, and the decorations committee was also fun - fat dog.

I saw the poster for the Irish Potatoe Famine class again, and then the reference to all the potatoes in the gym. Can't help but wonder if there may be a Paddy's episode coming up or something.

Did anybody else read the ticker on the news Hickey was watching, I only did because it was mentioned on the facebook page
Levar Burton and non-celebrity companion captured by pirates off the coast of Mexico. I think it was intended as a joke as in haha classic Troy

Over now until Feb 27th :(

Abed and Rachel were watching Rick and Morty which was nice, also liked the Sorkin line.
But whilst it wasn't a bad episode and I still enjoyed it, it was the weakest one so far.

    Bear Down for Mid-Terms

I learned how to say this in sign language

I enjoyed it very much. Hope they use Fillion again in a future episode, as it was quite a small part for such a big guest star.
Thought the absence of Troy would be much more noticeable, but I think bringing Hickey, Duncan and Chang more into the spotlight worked very well. Also hope Coat Check Girl doesn't just disappear again - would be nice to see her appear in at least a couple more episodes this season.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 5,368 ✭✭✭IvaBigWun

More great laugh out loud moments. Loved Abhed's early sign language mistakes ;)

Why oh why do American networks take nonsensical sabbaticals with their shows like this?

To be fair to them, this break is for the Winter Olympics, which are airing on NBC, so not much they could've done there... I think nearly everything on the big four (NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX) are taking a hiatus while the olympics are on - no sense airing new episodes if the ratings are gonna tank against such a big event...

In general though, yes, those breaks are stupid...

Hope they use Fillion again in a future episode, as it was quite a small part for such a big guest star.

There were a couple in this episode. Robert Patrick (Terminator 2) was the parking guy. Paget Brewster (Criminal Minds) was the IT girl.

Personally I loved seeing Kumail Nanjiani. He was in my favorite Portlandia sketch:

Game of Thrones, Labyrinth and Nathan Fillion. I love this show.

Really enjoyed that one, possibly my favourite this season. Though episodes one and five were probably stronger looking at it objectively.

I imagine we might see Rachel more regularly. Certainly seems set up that way given the lack of anything actually happening with her this episode bar a reintroduction. I imagine Chang along with Duncan/Rachel in a limited number of episodes will fill the gap left by Troy.
