Looks fun. Shame we don't get to have "fun" over here.

Id say you would have trouble getting your super to approve one, Far too short to be a decent "target" pistol, But definitely looks the part, There was a review in 22 Shooter recently!

The new Ruger SR22 is a nice little "pocket" pistol aswell

A good James Bond prop, but little of use beyond that.

Is there a minimum barrel length for pistols ? after all it is presented as a target pistol and does target shooting in this country have to involve long range accuracy can it not just be fun. I think it will come down to the local super .

min barrel length is 10cm anything under and it is restricted and there are no new restricted short arm licences being granted.

It's a .22, and .22 short firearms are not necessarily restricted.

It is if it has a barrel length under 10cm

    No it isn't.

From the Firearms (Restricted Firearms and Ammunition) Order 2008:
    “short firearms” means firearms either with a barrel not longer than 30 centimetres or whose overall length (including the length of any detachable component) does not exceed 60 centimetres;

and not all short firearms are restricted. Again, from the same SI, the following are not restricted:
    (e) the following short firearms designed for use in connection with competitions governed by International Olympic Committee regulations:
    (i) air-operated firearms of 4.5 millimetres (.177 inch) calibre,
(ii) firearms using .22 inch rim-fire percussion ammunition.

"(iii) other firearms using 0.22 inch long rifle rimfire percussion ammunition provided that the maximum magazine capacity of such a firearm does not exceed five rounds and that the barrel length of the firearm is greater than 10 cm.”.

Here it is on the statute book.

Ok I'm just wondering about the magazine limit of 5rounds!
What I'm wondering is how are some shooters being told to restrict 6shot revolvers to 5 shot when a revolver does not have a mag.

Please correct me if I'm wrong here!

One/more of the chambers is plugged.

Are the walther ppk's made in steel like the old ones were or are they zinc plinkers ? The revolver thing is a bit of a joke imho, the magazine capacity of a semi is limited to 5 rounds , no mention is made of the one that can be in the chamber giving a total of 6 rounds, but a revolver must be plugged to 5 Giving a total of 5

Very valid point! One in the Chamber means six in the hand!

But does a revolver not have a cylinder as oppressed to a magazine

Yeah but arguing the technical differences is a waste of time. 5 is your max...be it cylinder or mag.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,113 ✭✭✭Zxthinger

Is there another SI somewhere else that reinforces this "5" rule!

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,976 ✭✭✭✭Witcher

There doesn't need to be, it's a ministerial order that could be withdrawn whenever the minister decides. If it was an Act it wouldn't be as easy to change.

It's irrelevant wether the container is a cylinder, tube or box, it's the capability to store the ammunition in the firearm without having to reload.
