What interest did the world have in Aden being a british colony fred?

Ok, so modern means 60 years ago.

Modern times started after the middle ages. Late modern times after teh French Revolution.

    Fred, you stated
It's nice to be self righteous when other people are brave enough to do the world's dirty work.

This man was in Aden in the 60's, for which he won a medal. What part of the worlds interests were served by keeping Aden a british colony?

Maybe it's a good place to shoot at extra-terrestrials from?

The Aden emergency wasn't about keeping Aden a colony, the transition to independence was announced in 1964.

....nothing to do with wanting to keep a base in the area and make sure the right kind of "independence" was granted....

More like a managed transition to independence and an avoidance of a blood bath between the two rival opposition groups.

When you say modern times, are we talking what, 30 years? 50 years?

Do you consider the first gulf war in that list? Or Bosnia, Kosovo and Macedonia?

How about Sierra Leone and Afghanistan?

It's nice to be self righteous when other people are brave enough to do the world's dirty work.
the first gulf war was a revenge war, the second iraq war was a revenge war to finish the job as bush senior was unable to finish it the first time, Afghanistan was a revenge war for 9 11 all though i doubt 9 11 had anything to do with Afghanistan, it has been dispite what both the british and american governments want you to think a huge FAILURE

I'm very highly educated. I know words, i have the best words, nobody has better words then me.

I dont normally agree with you but you do have a very valid point here which I think should be acknowledged. Bloody Friday was a totally evil act and there is nothing sectarian about wanting its victims remembered.

this was closed by a mod with this closing comment.

"The more we let threads like this run the more we let the cancer of this debate f*ck up AH for the regular poster who doesn't spend time point scoring over sectarian bullsh1t."

Is this forum bigoted? Have any threads about bloody Sunday been called a cancer? Not just memorial threads but even ones like this gloating on the death of an innocent old man?

Iirc, the PIRA called a temporary ceasefire during the first gulf war to effectively do their bit.

Did they want revenge as well?

(revenge for what though I've no idea)

    Not a believer in Karma.

With no hint of sarcasm, this must have been a terrible incident for his family to have had to witness.

Just as terrible as the families of the innocent victims of Bloody Sunday in Derry.

    Thoughts?

    What goes around...
