Obtaining a National insurance number in N.I

hi all

not sure if this is in the right section but anyway,,,im living here in southern in co mayo in fact and im travelling to Scotland to work for a small contract of a few weeks/months

im trying to get a national insurance number organized before I go over

so does anyone here in northern Ireland know where I can ring up there that I can get an interview to obtain one etc

is this possible to do what im looking to do

Being from ROI means you have the right to work in the UK so getting an NI number should be handy enough. I think you should ring the National Insurance Number Processing Centre in Portadown (probably the closest to yourself) to make an appointment: Telephone - 028 3877 3046 (from ROI - 004428 3877 3046) - http://www.nidirect.gov.uk/applying-for-a-national-insurance-number-if-you-live-in-northern-ireland

If they can't help you should contact the jobs and benefits office and the handiest office for you would probably be in Enniskillen - http://www.nidirect.gov.uk/enniskillen-jobs-and-benefits-office

Strictly speaking you need to be resident in the UK before you can get one. Northern Ireland might be more flexible on that than the rest of the UK is, let us know how you get on.
