Getting a UK number low cost ways

    Hi,

I need a UK number. I might get one or two calls on it only. I don't want to spend much money for it.

I'd prefer it to be a regular UK mobile number or a regular UK landline number.

    Any recommended ways?

I could get a SIM, but I guess I'd need to go north of the border to get it. Would prefer something quicker / easier.

I could use Skype, I think. I'd prefer not to have charges for the number since it's unlikely to be used much, though this is not a major issue.

I googled, and found this: http://www.uknumber.co.uk/

...anyone used that, or other such services, that you could recommend, or say to avoid...?

    Thanks.

Three.co.uk they have three at home, so no costs to receive calls and any calls to UK would be in your bundle, should be able to topup if you need to online or with CC on the phone.

Another option is Skype with a skypein number, with unlimited landline calls diverted to your phone here should be about 3.99 a month.

ps: i see with a yac number, callers need to be based in the uk.

does anyone know a similar service but that callers outside the uk could add +44 to, and the call would go through to my irish mobile?

These numbers cost a fortune to call if they're still around ... or at least they did in 2007 according to the report below. Your customers won't be happy.

You could try a call answering service like www.alldaypa.com. They only charge for calls they answer for you, and the text message they send with the caller info.

    You could try www.blueface.ie

I used them for years and they were pretty good. It might be worth looking in the VoIP forum on here also.

I use sipgate, no monthly charge just a topup fee. Quality better than blueface.

I used an old office address so I have a Northampton number but you can get any area except central London.
