    Hi all,

Looking for some recommendations for a good mechanic in the Limerick area who charges reasonably and is reliable. There was a thread a few weeks ago with a number of names but i cant seem to locate it.

Looking to get a number of things done to my Audi A3(06) so if anyone knows a mechanic that specialises in VW/Audi then even better.

    Thanks in advance

One of my cars is an Audi, and I go down to Audi Cork on the South Douglas road in Cork whenever I want anything done by an Audi vendor.

It easy for me to do so as I am in Cork every week with my business, but they are tip top if you want an Audi dealership to do the work rather than a generic garage.

I am sure there are no shortage of very good non branded mechanics in Limerick though if you want to go down the generic route.

If it involves electrics then Des Kennedy (if he is still in business) would be my shout. (061) 418659 used to be his business number (have one of his business cards here)

The garage on Windmill street (Windmill motors maybe?) is meant to have a very good reputation for general work.

Another that I know of, but who I have not used in years would be just off of Gerald Griffin street. Danny, who used to work for Sheamus McGrath years ago, runs/ran the place. Don't have a number to hand but maybe someone else reading this thread will know who I am on about and have a business number for you.

Try Clondrinagh Motor Centre (CMC) out past Coonagh if you are stuck. Used to get my old BMW looked after there. They are BMW specialists but they service other makes also. Never had any issues with their work.

It's DANNO, and he's out in the East Link business park behind O'mara Motors Toyota (now closed)
He still trades as Seamus McGrath Motors and can be contacted on 061 317788.
Can be a little bit dear compared to some of the Polish lads, but is very good.

Also Seamus McGrath himself is back in business on Sexton st, but personally I think he's probably been out of the Mechanic trade for a bit too long....not having a dig at him, he was very good in his day, but he has been a Car Salesman out in Elm motors for the past 17 or so years and is possibly a bit out of touch with the current trade.
I only mentioned Seamus himself as there could be a tendency for people to confuse the two operations as they trade under very similar names...
    Seamus MCGrath Motors.
    Seamus MCGrath Servicing.

That's the lad I am on about. Have always called him Dan or Danny in the past when in conversation with him, and he answered to it :)

Good mechanic though, and you get what you pay for with him.

.....and just to confuse things a bit more his real name is Aidan Frahill :).
Definitely knows his stuff, can seem under pressure and a bit abrupt sometimes but that is usually because he is snowed under with work (not too many of us can say that these days).

There must be other guys out there that are good at electrics? Is there anyone other than Des Kennedy? Whos going to take all the work when he retires?

Always found him to be a straight forward kind of guy to deal with. Then again I prefer blunt talkers who are very good at what they do over smooth talkers who average at best in their profession, hence me rating Mr Frahill.:)

Christy Madden in the East link Business Park....behind the ex Tony O'Mara showrooms.
Although Christy himself has semi-retired the two lads who look after things now are quite good.
They even sourced an electronics guy to do a job on an ECU that they wouldn't touch, and his fix has worked perfectly since.
