Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I don't want any spoilers but I'm mad to see the map. I found another map that is a sharper image, you can read the locations and has icons for all shops and stuff. Cannot wait to explore this! Spoilering the link just in case.

City doesn't look as big as I expected. Hopefully it feels bigger. A lot of mountain ranges too. Has to be some stuff hidden in them. Hopefully they are more RDR than SA.

Mother of god the map is HUGE, can't wait to
take a spin along the coastal road

I read somewhere it takes 1 hour to drive around the map, I assume that along the coast roads

For me, around the map means the roads closest to the coast the entire time. Otherwise you're taking short cuts. I plan on doing just that as soon as I'm allowed.

Thanks for putting everything in a spoiler tag.

I'm talking about the map below
The map itself looks huge, but the first thing that came to my head is that the city looks kinda small, and there is only a handful of little villages?

I understand there will be a lot more space in indoors and things like that, but i can't grasp how its bigger than RDR GTA SA and GTA IV combined

guess once you're actually in the world and can see how long the streets are in context it'll seem bigger, it looks huge in fairness and loads of countryside and hills and stuff, gonna be great flying over all that.

    Re City size:
I think some screens, particularly some recent ones, show just how big and expansive the city is, so I'm not particularly worried about it being too small. When you look closer at the map of the city, you see many smaller streets that aren't clear at first, so I think it will be much bigger than it looks at first glance. It's one thing looking at an aerial view of the city, but when you're at ground level it's going to feel huge.
This screen in particular shows that the city will be very big imo:

    5-1.jpg
I didn't realise the east part of the city would be so big, and it extends even farther to the west. Also the city appears to be longer than it is wide, so I think it's plenty big.

Which also shows just how big the overall map is, it's absolutely massive. There may appear to be alot of empty space around the mountains but I've no doubt there's countless things to see and do around there, Rockstar don't create empty space that has no purpose.

    Re: the supposed map

It's near spot on to what the likes of Fido (namely) and co. had mapped out based on pictures and trailers, the army base aside.

Yeah, reading on GTA Forums, amount of people saying the map is too small is crazy. Yeah, the city of Los Santos is only a small part of the map but even then if you zoom in on the city, there are a ton of little roads.

I'm so glad it is kinda opposite what Liberty City was. Also, I'd say the full map will be unlocked from the start (besides military bases, etc.)

Here is the map of IV imposed on the map of V. Yeah, it may be off slightly but gives a nice rough look at the size of things.

    Will spoiler the link again.

I have a feeling the scale is not quite right on that overlay. I reckon Liberty City is probably the same size as, if not a little bigger than Los Santos and then the rest of the map is extra.

Liberty City wasn't exactly small either to be fair, those bridges took a while to get across. I can't see how anyone would consider that map too small, it's gigantic, and all the countryside, underwater, mountaintop, airport stuff? I hope you can go into airport terminals this time that'd be fun. Driveable baggage cars? :pac:

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,320 ✭✭✭splashthecash

I agree, on first viewing it doesn't seem big but then you zoom in...!!

    There three airport\runway strips...three!!

Mountain ranges, valleys, canyons, lakes, rivers, the sea, ports, prisons and that is not even including the city. There are smaller roads I bet that don't even show up on the map

There are 4 hidden features left on the Rockstar Los Santos guide book, we should definitely be getting 2 if not all 4 in the next day or so.

Casinos not looking good comparing to map icons :(

I'm not sure there can be casinos, can there? They're legal in Las Vegas (Las Venturas) due to different laws, but not Los Angeles (Los Santos)

Ah damn you Penn making sense! Ya, probably won't be in the game. Even if you could play poker like Red Dead. Shame if they left that out.

cheers man, do we get any pre order extras like the ones gamestop etc. give you, or is that what you mean with pre order blimp?

One of the pre-order bonus is a blimp, and you do get it. You also get a 75% off discount to any other digital rockstar game off PSN, which means if you want you can get Max payne for ~€6.

Not before launch to preload but it might show up after.

The island looks to be about 48km long by 28km wide and the city itself is about 13km wide by 16km long. The ring road is around 60km, probably more like 70km, so it's a 1 hour drive at normal city speed and about 15 minutes in a supercar.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,788 ✭✭✭✭krudler

I dunno how anyone can say it's not big enough, what are the parachute smybols? places where you can get a chute or places to jump off? there's probably basejumping challenges

You forgot to add in how many times you crash with the supercar and go flying out the windscreen. Probably need to add about 10 mins. :D

Absolutely hilarious people saying it doesn't look big enough.
It has already been confirmed that it is the size of GTA IV, RDR and San Andreas combined and that it will took 1 hour REAL time to get around the coast driving...and people think by looking at a map without any sense of scale that they can say it looks small? Come on now, don't be silly.

I'm looking forward to dressing like Trevor in online and going in the woods waiting for dumbasses to wander into my territory.

I remember when GTA VI online I made friends with this random guy starting driving around the city with him, we came across another guy that wanted to join us.We'd stop pick him up cruise around for a while before executing him, funny thing was he kept coming back over and over lasted about a hour.Never once did he try to kill us :D

    Oh I love online.

I hated racing in gta iv, there was a turn every 2 seconds apart from the long stretch down algonquin,...can't wait to put a cheetah in top gear and not brake till the race is over.

The race at the airport was another one in IV.

I loved racing in IV, probably my favourite thing to do when playing online along with free roam, but as I've stressed before, I just hope the driving mechanics are not so drastically changed from IV to V. Also hope the respawning feature works a bit more quickly as at times in IV you had to hold the respawn button down far longer than other times.

It was, and GTA V is meant to be 50 sq miles. So there's no way that map is to scale as the SA map looks a lot less than a quarter going by the above, even ignoring the surrounding oceans and Alamo Sea.

Add GTA IV and RDR map in there too and it'd fill it up.
