Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hard Drive Click of Death

    Hi Guys and Gals,

I have a laptop which will not boot. There is a loud clicking noise coming from it when it is powered on, which I am assuming is coming from the Hard Drive.

It is a Windows laptop, and I have tried booting it into puppy Linux in the hopes that it was a Windows fault and I could get the files back. Alas, while it boots into Linux fine I cannot access any of the Windows files. It doesn't seem to see the Hard Drive at all.

I have trawled the net but all I can see are people advising of how expensive this will be to get the files back.

Does anyone have any suggestions for how I can try retrieving the data??

    Thanks in advance.

If the HDD is no longer detected by the system, there isn't really anything you can do

Professional in-lab data recovery ain't going to be cheap. Usually they will not quote you over the phone before the drive has been examined for damage assessment. They may give you an estimate based on various scenarios.
