Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Can Portugal win the World Cup?

Okay, Portugal may be one of the so called 'smaller nations', but surely they have a decent chance of winning it next summer.

They have the best player in the world, who can singlehandedly win a game on his own!

They also boast a very good squad with some game young lads like Nani and Jauo Mountinho who are also hungry for a challenge.

They also speak the Brazialin lingo and are well used to the hot climate of Copacabana beach, which could give them an edge in the searing heat next June!

So, do you think they can do it? Can young Ronaldo repeat the feat of Maradon in '86 and win the World Cup on his own with a bunch of journeymen?

I certainly wouldn't be one bit surprised to see them in the final...

Any team can win it but Portugal to win ? Absolutely not.
Neither Portugal, the Netherlands,France or Germany are going to win it.
Brasil will really be playing their football next year.

I dont see how speaking the local lingo will be of any help. Also it may not be that hot in a fair few of the venues its the brazilian winter the likes of sao paulo will be about 15 degrees along with 3 or 4 other venues. All the teams are more or less going to get games in the different climates throughout brazil as no team plays in the same venue for the 3 group games. Having said that yes they are one of about 8 teams that have a chance. Oh ye and have you ever heard of a player called Messi he might have something to say about one of your statements.

Are these the new "Are XYZ done" pointless threads?

Aren't Portugal only 2nd in their group?

Portugal? No chance, you can't win a major tournament with no strikers.....well.

Can we not just start a 'Who will win the 2014' World Cup and save ourselves about 20-25 threads?

Par for the course for them. For all the consideration they get as one of the top tier teams in Europe they haven't actually even won a qualifying group since WC2006. They seem to do just enough to get through each time and then raise it a bit in the finals.

No chance. They have a history of choking and I don't see that changing.

England are ruled out anyway as they have a poor manager and a fairly average team
