Hi,

Im going to start cycling into work and will need to equip my bike with lights, a lock, mud guards (stop my back getting wet) and possibly a solution to stop my quick release saddle getting stolen. Is there a way to change a quick release fitting?

Wheres the best place to get these items, there seems to be a good few bike shops with varying prices on the same items. Are there any brand names i should look out for or even avoid? i would be very concerned with visibility over the winter so dont mind spending up to 50 or 60 on lights if it means ill be safer.

I'd suggest Smart or Cateye for the lights.

A decent waterproof cover for the backpack.

Get two locks - a u-lock and a cable lock for security and be prepared to spend a bit to get decent ones.

Generally you can just replace the bolt in the seat clamp, if not a new seat clamp is only a fiver.

Best value for money front lights are the CREE lamps on ebay, 20euro and you're sorted.

ok ive been to a lot of bike shops and done a lot of looking online. im afraid all im doing is confusing myself.

Locks:
I was originlly looking at kryptonite locks (either series 4 or a mini7) Now ive discovered ONguard, And I thought a U lock and a cable was the way to go, but now im thinking a chain might be best.

Lights: Originally looking at cat eye and smart but they seem to be very expensive compared to some of the stuff on amazon (see links below) which would be more powerful. most of my cycling will be in and around dublin/ n11 so i guess i dont need that power but its cheaper than the lower power alternatives

helmets and mud guards are straightforward so i think i can manage those :P
