Grey Suit - Shirt & Tie Combo?

I'm off to a friends wedding on Saturday and went shopping earlier for a shirt.

Not a fashion guru so please be kind!!!!

I've a dark grey suit so was going down the route of a white shirt. Ended up being persuaded by the sales assistant to getting a pink shirt. What do people reckon - good combo of grey suit + pink shirt. Sold me a pink patterned tie which I'm not sure about. Any other tie suggestions or what I should be looking at tie wise?

Tried on shirt with grey suit and did actually like it. Just wondering on other opinions of those 'in the know'.

Pink and grey look great together, so that's a great start. I'd suggest a purple tone tie, it's in the same 'family' as pink, and it looks great with grey. Either that or silver paisley. I love silver paisley!!!

Grey and pink look great together. The pink patterned tie sounds good too or as baby and crumble suggested you could try purple. If the shirt is a light pink I think a darker pink, solid colour tie can look good. Navy can work too if the pink has blue undertones. I was googling images and thought this looked great too - especially with the pocket square.

glad you avoided the white shirt. So many blokes just play it safe and go for the old reliable white shirt. That's just too 'worky' IMO for a wedding, you should show some style and colour.

I'd agree with B&C's advice, definitely avoid a pink tie with pink shirt!
I don't know what the salesperson was thinking there, could only have surpassed themselves if they recommended a black shirt for the grey suit...
