He’s hit a streak of form throughout his career and won during those streaks. Has he ever dominated for any lengthy period of time, like Woods. Mickelson has won ****loads too but I don’t think he’s dominated the game at any time either, just happens to win big during a streak. Dominate= a period of a few years at the top, not several months, loads of them do that.

loads of them don't win 4 majors - and Rory will probably get to 10 +

He isn't into dominating the game. He wants to be more rounded.

I know a strange thing - but he has said it and I sadly believe him now.

But loads don't win 4 majors - name them in the last 10 years.

Was following the scores while at work. While it’s clearly ridiculously tough out there, that score is just shocking from Rory.

Rory's problem is in almost every tournament he will have one day where he could smash the course record and one day where he could smash windows in the carpark. Doing that in his early years people always said the bad days will become fewer with experience and the good days will allow him win 10+ majors. Now he is middle aged (in athlete terms) it's starting to become apparent that the reverse is more likely to be true.

Rory is miles / years from middle age.

    This is golf.

Never said a thing about majors! I said loads of guys have a period of around 12 to 18 months when they win or have numerous top ten finishes and accumulate couple of million but at no stage do they DOMINATE the game. McDowell Kaymer Day Willett Harrington to name a few.

Have they won 4 major

So what does dominate the game mean - in the modern game - post Tiger who has dominated it - if that can be defined.

    Does that even happen anymore.

    Has the game changed.

    Is it stronger.

A couple of guys have "dominated" it for short periods.

    Spieth - DJ

    But Rory has done more.

Tiger is a freak - it can't be considered a reference for domination.

Nah, he was a prodigy so he's middle aged alright. Seve won his last major at 31, Woods at 32.

Rory had a putt for par on the 1st(his 10th) and he looked like he just couldnt give a ****e. He put the ball down and he just lazily hit it. Ball rolled 6 feet passed and never for a second looked like going in. Rory was pissed off after 9 and phoned it in from there

There is nothing that suggests he will win a major anytime soon, his game, nor his course management is good enough to put together the 4 rounds necessary to win. So, if he doesn't win the open or PGA, it will be 5 years since his last win. He was a heck of a lot better player 2011-2014 than he is now, so to say he will win 10+ is optimistic at best. He was on the way up when he was younger, now he has plateaued, he is rich, and like you said, he has 4 majors already.

he could win a major this year

    watch this space.

He could, if his putting, course management and concentration improves, so, no he won't.

His putting from inside 15 feet appears to be very weak.

    Agree with this

When things go even a little wrong - his attitude is brutal.

Even at 6/7 over you would not be out of this today.

Tiger - even today - bad start - sticks at it.

No way will he get to 10, won't even be close .
Doesn't have the advantage of being a bomber anymore .
Too many other bombers out there now with better wedge play and putting stats

The Rory of 2011 wasn't all about bombing. He was a more rounded golfer back then.

Nor was he married - or remotely as rich.

Rory isn't chipping and putting well enough to trouble the new kids on the block.
You need to be a very good all-rounder and Rory is not that anymore.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,661 ✭✭✭Dr. Bre

Maybe cos he really wants the masters that the other majors he’s not that up for

You never know he could practice and improve.

I think he will win The Open Championship this year.
