Ah here, has the Spring Chicken started already???

I'm still getting over it being the new year at all!

Time to start considering searching the attics/sheds/side passages for the sanding/antifouling kit and contemplate actually going out to do something about it......

Then consider actually finding a boat to get out on (anyone Spring Chickening looking for crew???) and remind myself that I actually used to race once upon a time.

And start making plans for the new season - hurray!!! :D

Anyone got any suggestions for accommodation in Cowes for a couple of days prior to the start of the Fastnet Race this year in early August? We're berthing in East Cowes marina but don't mind travelling a bit if necessary. Some of the crew are looking for accommodation in Plymouth after the race as well, so any suggestions there would be gratefully received as well.
    Cheers

Can't help you with accomodation suggestions I'm afraid - when I was over there we stayed on board.

But slightly o/t from your post - do you know if there's a list out yet of those who successfully got entries for the Fastnet this year? You obviously did! I know quite a few boats who were keen on doing it, and am killed wondering who actually got entries in! Repeated requests of RORC on FB and Twitter have just yielded silence

Anyone listening to Pat Kenny at the moment?

Lady talking about living on some project in Utah for two weeks that simulates living on Mars - tiny shared bunk rooms, excessive heat, crappy loos that broke early on, mega-gear to be put on every time you go out - sounds EXACTLY like being on a long offshore race boat :D

Except apparently there were only four of them.... awww diddums! Try 14 for a week, missus, and see how you like it :D

Only skippers (and their crew) will know if they have been accepted into the Fastnet at the moment. They don't publish a list of confirmed entries because there's still quite a few drop-outs between now and the race. That's where those on the waiting list still have hope.

One of the boats that did the ARC+ with us in November

I had a look on board in St. Lucia - and oh my goodness, it was a beast of a boat.

Glad to hear all are safe and well. Do NOT envy them out in those conditions!!!

@ Neris - One of the true 3/4 tonners in DL (late 1970's)

  • Registered Users Posts: 20,056 ✭✭✭✭neris

I remember when I started big boat racing there was a heap of 3/4s and other big tonners on the bay. Decibel and another DB in Howth and Juno. Then Escapade, utopia & Deja Blue in DL . Decibel & Deja blue are blue are still around but both in a sorry state especially Deja

Scenery Anchor was a great boat :D

Sailed on Meg for a few years when Howie owned her. Won loads of events. Was very tweaky but we knew how to tweak

Awful shame what happened to her.

That was Kelly who had her? Sailed with his son for a few years. Clueless.

One of the world’s largest yachts has been arrested in Gibraltar over a €15.3m admiralty claim filed by the German shipyard that built it

Interesting. It is now released. Its designer is Philippe Starck, who also designed Steve Jobs' yacht ‘Venus’ which also was impounded over a fee dispute. Those boats are pig ugly. Weird guy, lives like a hermit and usually works from his bedroom, naked. He never collaborates so I’d wonder about the seaworthiness of those boats. I rather like the specialised skills of a marine architect when I step onto a floating object. Better known for his interiors and hotels, most of Starck's projects are IMO utilitarian, often quirky, rather than aesthetically pleasing. But I like his Pibal bike.
