Anime on tv in the eighties

Does anyone remember the name of the show in the eighties that was on BBC I think. I involved men driving massive robots in space. That's all I can remember about it I'm afraid. I also remember that it was great. It definately wasn't M.A.S.K although I thought that was great too.
