I'm a 1st year student in UCD, studying social science, I know its early days but I'm not really feeling that I'm going to like the course. I dont think i can afford to drop out either, so I was just wondering how plausible is it to transfer to another course in UCD or another college? Also how would I go about it?

You can do an internal transfer between similar courses, either from semester one to two, or year one to two. Details here: https://myucd.ucd.ie/programme_info/transfer.ezc#S2. Transferring to another college, afaik, only works if it's the same course, or possibly a very similar one.

Going to 1st year of another course requires withdrawing and reapplying through the CAO. If you do want to do this, you should decide before October 1st, as if you withdraw on or before then, you still have your first year of free fees, and UCD will refund whatever they've paid you. Details here: http://www.ucd.ie/registry/adminservices/fees/withdrawing_from_a_course.htm
