In the process of setting up a cover band... We cant seem to settle on a set list.. So my question is...what music to people want to hear in pubs nowadays?

It depends on the age group of the punters, the time of the gig (afternoon, early evening or late-night), and a few other imponderables (the weather, time of year, night of the week, etc.)

There's probably a few anthems for each age group that will go down well in most circumstances, and after that it's up to you to come up with interesting-but-popular songs for the paying customers.

Might be best to just call to potential venues a few times and try to get a feel for what goes down well there.

    Good luck!

I absolutely can't stand playing sweet child of mine, but It gets a massive cheer every time we start it. Cheesy sing alongs always go down well.

Might be wise to specialise in a specific genre of music, classic rock, ska etc other wise you end up having to have a broad set, or indeed a set that a lot of other bands are doing and the band (your band) has no particular hook upon which to lay its hat and market itself.

Apart from that, play songs you enjoy and can play well and a singer who can sing. Songs that people can dance to, or get animated by..gotta enjoy it tho...otherwise its all about the money, and you might as well start a wedding band and learn the waltzes and sh1t. A song for every occasion:

I'd love to hear this been played in a pub, but probably never will.
