Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Agreed, tonight is the perfect chance to ease him into the first team, playing at home in a game that should be played at a tempo he is more accustomed to. Very much looking forward to seeing what he can add to the side, my hopes are high. Also wouldn't mind seeing Van Ginkel tonight, had a fine pre season but has barely kicked a ball competitively for us yet.

Would like to see something along the lines of: Cech; Bertrand, Cahill, Ivanovic, Dave; Van Ginkel, Lampard, Willian, Oscar, Mata; Torres

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

Jose said 4 of the U-22's would start.

So that means take your pick from :
    Oscar
    Kevin de Bruyne
    Eden Hazard
    André Schürrle
    Tomas Kalas
    Marco van Ginkel
    Josh McEachran
    Nathaniel Chalobah

What I'd like to see is

    Cech
    Azp Cahill Luiz Cole
    MVG KDB
    Mata Oscar Hazard
    Eto'o

I'm going to say an optimistic 5-1 tonight.

    :pac:

Chelsea go with a strong team and go at Basel from the get go and I would expect a two or three goal winning margin.

But if Chelsea give the likes of Diaz time in the centre and don't close Stocker down, then we could get a tit for tat game with Basel snatching a draw or losing narrowly in a four or five goal game.

Basel will be will organised though and will be technically sound. They may wish they had not sold Dragovic in the summer though, as he was a bit of a lynchpin at the back for them last season despite his young age.

Any excuse for this gem from last years Europa League game.

Reckon it will be a much tighter affair myself.
    2-1 to the Blues.

Schwarzer, Terry, Azpilicueta, Mikel, De Bruyne, Mata, Ba.

No Torres, even on the bench!

Schwarzer, Terry, Azpilicueta, Mikel, De Bruyne, Mata, Ba.

If VG and Willian gel, and Etoo settles, we could score 3 or 4.

    Prediction 3:1

Keep the big guy for the Fulham game.

    Looking forward to seeing Will.I.an.

With that line up we'll score goals no doubt. Eto'o to get off the mark and Willian to shine would be a nice return.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,868 ✭✭✭Andersonisgod

The squad is very strong right now. Very exciting line up.

    Terrible so far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

This has been painful, to slow and too many touches taken out of the ball.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

No width and we're predictable so far, story of the season. If a team can stay compact we've no options to go through them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

Hazard is being so wasteful, for a guy with his talent hes having a stinker.

Simple as that, 2 passes and a shot about f**king time, its being a terrible 45mins.

Great piece of play for the goal there.

Very disappointed in V. Ginkel's performance thus far all he has done if give the ball away sloppily the dived in. I can see him getting sent off TBH.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

Not a great performance at all but a nice goal by Oscar.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,868 ✭✭✭Andersonisgod

Oscar really seems to enjoy this Champions League thing :p

Credit also to Luiz and Lampard, each pushed on a bit and tried to make something happen and it paid off.

VG has been poor, as has Willian, Ivanovich screaming fir support when attacking on the right

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,996 ✭✭✭Duck Soup

José has a face of thunder, even after the Oscar goal. Something approaching a hairdryer coming up at half-time I feel.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

The whole team as a unit have been piss poor, Coles got caught 2 or 3 times but your man Sala had no one in the box.

De Bruyne will be on soon enough I reckon and I'd whip MVG for him, no need for 2 holding players when a team like Basel have very little through the centre, all the danger is from wide.

Brana and Eto'o have been the two bright spots so far, with Frank putting in his usual decent shift. Apart from that...meh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

Eto'o movement is still top drawer, we've 3 number 10's on the park and nobody can f**king pick him out, its so frustrating. I'd say Willian could be axed as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,509 ✭✭✭Killinator

It's a bad sign when we needed to rely on Luiz in the 45th minute to inject some sort of pace in a team with 3 number 10s!

Yup, that's the upside to Luizs game, that hes very comfortable bringing it forward.

Now, Jose has had his words of wisdom.
    Batten down the hatches folks.
    There's a storm a coming.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

I'd love 2 or 3 more but the next 10-15 mins will tell alot, I dont trust us to keep a 1-0 nil lead TBH.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

    Good few mins there....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

Why is eto'o wide left?

Looks like Oscar through the middle as CF.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,262 ✭✭✭✭GavRedKing

First 10 mins are the same as the last 45 mins, we're playing so poorly, unlucky from Oscar.

We're not good enough, simple as.

This team hasnt gelled yet and hasnt found any rhythm whatsoever.

We've a title winning squad, yes but I just cant see us doing it if this is our displays against Basel.
