Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Old council house - Planning act / part applicable

We are having some tangling with a neighbour over an extension he built to rear of house. Now I would like to look at the orignal drawings etc to see what is original and what is not. There are no planning files at all for the property but I believe the council never had to actually apply to themselves for planning so these things would have been dealt with in a different way about 30 years ago.
The problem is that it makes it very difficult for me to find original info.
What should I ask the council for as they are giving me the run around and also legal people might know what part of the Planning and development regulations allow the council to build like this and what paperwork should it have generated back in the 80s?

you could make an FOI request but you would have to pay. Also you could mske a formal complaint in writing to the council about their giving you run around and if you are not satisfied with the reply write again and appeal their reply. If still not happy -ombudsman
if you fill in first part you will see the rules, you have to complain and appeal first
Don't waste time phoning council all must be written

ask the council again and if not told appeal/complain

Until about 20 years ago, there was the mistaken belief that official bodies didn't have to apply for planning permission, so if it is a 1980s council house, there may be no planning permission at all. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mullaghmore,_County_Clare

Extensions up to a certain size don't need planning permission. http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/housing/planning_permission/planning_perm_altering_a_house.html
