External hard drive issue

Help !!! My external hard drive wont work. Its a hard drive off a laptop that i used to have and a friend fixed it up so i could use it as a storage device. He ordered a cover for the hard drive and it worked perfectly up to tonight. I use it for storage for my pictures from my club only. Ive about 6 years worth on it and the pics run well into the thousands so i'm panicing here. I can hear the motor starting and stopping but it wont open at all. Can anyone help or have i lost them all

What size is it,no of gig, 80, 120?
if its 2.5inch sata drive,,under 300gig,buy a usb caddy cost 12 euro ,put it in that.
say its 500 gig you might need a caddy with a power supply ,35 euro.

THERE,S enclosures for sata and ide interface drives ,35 euro ,if its n old ide type drive
