I really like Jarek, he's a sweetie. Him, Stephen and of course Will are my favourites!

Jesus, I nearly woke up the children.

Ah poor Steve, he came across as a very, very lovely man. I liked Bridget too.

I don't know if it was just the editing but Maryanne seemed to spend the whole show crying.

Yay !!! Our boy did good. Only catching up now and am absolutely delighted for Will. It's your time to shine - so go for it !

I am so making that apple/cider cake for desert on Sunday. To hell with the elderflower custard, it will be Bird's custard for us.
Well done Will, chuffed for ya.

Only watching this now - well done Will. I was so excited!! How sweet is Jarek crying to his boyfriend at the end? He seems lovely :)

I want to make that red velvet roulade. It looked delicious.

I'm going to miss Bridget's hair, seriously Will, ask her if she'll teach me how to do it?

Good luck tonight (feels weird saying that when you know what's happened!)

The first week or two jarek came across as sort of aggressive but now he just seems so funny and sweet. Defo my favourite alongside will!!

Good luck tonight will... We're all rooting for you!

The challenge this week is chocolate, they have not said what the technical challenge is yet.

Is the presentation not very amateurish???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,186 ✭✭✭dee_mc

Stephen's presentation is quite messy, I expected more when I saw his precise approach to piping the tiger print.

I thought the overhang of the tiger outer layer was a bit ugly. He should have trimmed it down level to the top.

Does Biddy White Lennon actually have an opinion on any of the cakes or what is she there for?!

Lol at her comment at the beginning of the show about knowing if something wasn't quite right flavourwise, she looks to himself for the lead every single time and just agrees...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,005 ✭✭✭✭Toto Wolfcastle

I don't like that they show all the positive comments during judging and then afterwards the judges say they weren't impressed.

  • Registered Users Posts: 587 ✭✭✭Cosmo2013

well, she's no Mary Berry! She's just winging it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,186 ✭✭✭dee_mc

That looks like a fabulous dessert. Bit of a jump in terms of technicality from the previous challenges to this.

'I think orange and mango go well together' - Profound! BWL

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,186 ✭✭✭dee_mc

Eh it's not Masterchef, the whole quenelle thing is hardly a skill you'd expect from a baker is it? I'm a bit confused by how much emphasis the judges are putting on certain aspects of the challenges!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,031 ✭✭✭yellow hen

Had anyone managed to make a tweal? (Have no idea how to spell it let alone make it)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,186 ✭✭✭dee_mc

Grr would Biddy stop insulting the contestants efforts, unprofessional much? Bit of constructive criticism wouldn't go amiss, could take a tip from Paul

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,972 ✭✭✭cofy

Paul seems to have quite a shake in his hands.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,005 ✭✭✭✭Toto Wolfcastle

Biddy just constantly states the obvious and says the same thing all the time. She's really starting to annoy me.

  • Registered Users Posts: 587 ✭✭✭Cosmo2013

She's annoyed me from the get go. She's had to be asked 3 or 4 times 'what do you think Biddy?'....she should give an opinion. Too condescending!
ok, rant over!.............breath! it's only baking

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 281 ✭✭ITDept

It's such a poor relation to the GBBO unfortunately. The contestants aren't up to scratch - no one even seems to practice when they're at home, and they're constantly asking each other for help. The judges are very weak. As for the "humorous" presenter... I wish they'd put a little more effort into the show as this could have been a gem but instead has become just another lame copy of a UK format.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,301 ✭✭✭✭ben.schlomo

Have to agree with the above post, its such a poor imitation of the real thing, if they were gonna go for such a carbon copy look then why skimp on things, plastic cheap bowls and the misshapen pieces of filthy paper they use when numbering people in the technical challenge, the whole show just screams cheap and the two judges have zero charisma or charm. As for the bakers, your one from d4 would wanna be shot.

Just dont shoot me Ben ;)

I think everyones comments are very fair above, I believe if it gets a second year it will only be improved more and more.

You would think with only 7 left they would at least be able to make a chocolate cake look good!

Well it couldn't be any worse so by default it must improve.

I'm looking forward to the next round Chong, I had no signal on Thursday night to post but I was watching!........:)

Congratulations on getting through, Best of luck next week!.......

    GSWx:)

There's alot of criticism about this programme so I wanted to add my bit :)

I ultimately really enjoy the programme and look forward to it ecery Thursday. It helps to have someone we 'know' in it! :)

I like that it follows the beeb format. The bbc do these things well so it would have been silly to alter from that. The judges are judgmental or critical enough which is a big problem. The equipment and materials look cheap next to the bbc but that's not a big deal. Ultimately the contestants are watchable and the show does what it needs too.

Best of luck next week will!

What could make this more interesting is if instead of sittting down with a cup of tea talking about the technical challenge, one of the judges demonstrated how it should be done.

  • Registered Users Posts: 19,749 ✭✭✭✭grey_so_what

The colours in the background is a bit Creche-y.....

Mille-feuille would have been attempted at some stage though by the contestants as practice?
