    The requirements for Cambridge starts that you need to achieve 5 a's in the leaving certificate. Is this an a1 or a2?

    I think it's both, actually. I mean, IIRC it can be either.

    It depends on your offer. If you look here Trinity college requires A1s in the subjects relevant to your degree.
    Also, not all offers will be 5 As as the tutor will decide what grades you need.

    If you're applying this year make sure to have your application sent by the 15th of October and the SAQ completed by the 22nd of October, or your application won't be considered.
