Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Doesn't matter if you don't finish it, just means the chopper in the heist is harder to control, I did it anyway but it's worth bumping up your flying points as Michael first.

so do i just gotta wait fr the call from Trevor?i hav the sub and the helicopter

You can do the whole thing without going sideways and upside down you know, just means you don't get a discount of 2 seconds for each one. You could also miss a few and still get a bronze.

I was 0.56 seconds away from Gold on that one (well, my second time going through the school as I wanted to bump up Franklin's flying skills too). Best advice is to always turn the same direction for each knife. That way you know which rudder direction to use each time to keep the plane up. I always put the left wing down and use R1 to keep it level. It might mean you have to turn a bit harder to make the next checkpoint, but it'll reduce the chances of crashing. And if you can see that the next one is an Inverted checkpoint (blue), give yourself enough time to invert early so you can get used to the inverted controls before approaching the bridge.

Flying never really bothered me, but trying to land helicopters or put them right over something has always been difficult.

Which heist are you doing? the
    sub
one? I was Trevor when I started that, just go to the H symbol once you have everything in place to start it.

You have to switch to Trevor and wait for a call from Wade I think. It wouldn't come up for me until after I did a main FIB mission with Michael.

I got gold in all of them apart from the two helicopters ones.

Can't seem to get the speed in the helicopter at all!

It's all in the left stick. Don't ram it forward, just very slightly forwards and it should do the job. The helis are fairly easy to manoeuvre once you get the hang of the swaying.

All gold in the flight school, but damn them helicopters were hard to control.

Does anyone know if its possible to access the runway at the international airport without obtaining the stars after you complete the flying school? Or do you need to buy the hanger that's for sale to stop getting the wanted level?

I bought the hanger and can fly in and out and drive around without a wanted level. Didn't drive to much so I don't know if you get a wanted level if you go off the roads

On your phone, under the heading travel and transport, click on the elitastravel.com site and you can buy one for your respective characters hangar. It costs $250K as far as I recall, either that or $350K.

,any advice on how to do it please?

Gently reduce speed - tap L2, and as soon as you land hold L2.

I thought I was going mental, I was doing the last flight school challenge and every time there was torrential wind and rain. I thought it was clever of r* to code it that way to make it more difficult.
So I gave up in a huff, went off and killed a loada people in the airport (which is very very big and will probably be one of the hotspots for GRAO) went back to the school and it was clear and sunny skies.

Was the game just being coincidently dickish to me or is it bad weather for everyone's first go?

My 1st attempt was a night time run, it was difficult as hell.

    When Trevor
takes over the small airport in Blaine and does the smuggling/bombing
nearly everytime I've done the flying missions its raining or foggy making it difficult enough.

Nice! What made ya do it this time?

I hate the helicopters. I have to re-learn the trick for flying them. I remember I had it down pretty well in IV but this is just a pain. I've failed the first test twice now because I can't get my speed up properly so I just bail from the chopper when I know I'm not getting at least silver.

Is the trick still to keep the nose down and tap L trigger rather than holding it down?

Keep the nose down no matter if you're going up or down, you'll keep the speed.

I was pressing r2 instead of l2 when trying to land lol *facepalm* I swear I was nearly driven crazy tuesday night because of it :-0.

I assume you mean the R trigger (R2)?

I push fully forward, and hold R2 down; you go pretty fast but drift downwards slowly. Whenever I lose too much height I ease back on the stick a bit until I gain height again, and repeat. Use L1 & R1 for steering.

    Right trigger yeah.

do you have to get all gold stars to continue missions?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,229 ✭✭✭✭J. Marston

Got all gold on the plane stuff, they were easy. But could only get silvers on the helicopters, can't get the hang of them at all.

One of my mates didnt go near flying school and was able to continue. It just makes it easier.

Any advantage in getting all gold, will it make handling easier?

Trophies/Achievements. I know two guys on 360 who are having a contest to see who can get the most gold throughout the game.

I'm happy enough with seven gold's.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,756 ✭✭✭Thecageyone

I'm not bothered about all Golds, I just want to get it done and dusted. Bloody chopper section is killing me. I did it, but ran out of time Grrr. Need to figure how to get through it faster. The video that was posted, that guy just makes it look a piece of piss, I hate him! :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,478 ✭✭✭✭gnfnrhead

Seriously, the knifing and inverted flying course was easier than the straight forward helicopter one's! The grading curve is too steep on them. I'm not good enough to fly them at full speed (well, without crashing and killing everyone) so one missed check point and it's gone.

Dont have any intention of doing the helicopter courses again. Might do the plane courses that I didnt Gold but only when I have everything else finished.

The helicopter courses aren't too bad if you've had a bit of practice flying one around before hand. Try and get one in free play and spend a bit of time getting used to it and having a bit of fun with it. Also some tips I've found help are:

-Don't overcorrect: the helicopters are prone to wobble a bit, but if you try to fight the wobble with the left stick you'll probably overcorrect for it and make the wobble worse. Just keep pushing straight forward and it'll sort itself out. When you get used to that, then maybe try gently correcting.

-Practice gentle banking turns, then harder turns. The easy way to turn is to keep pushing forward on the left stick, but slightly nudge it in the direction you want to go. You can use the shoulder buttons to help a little, but just tap them slowly at first. When you get used to that, try banking harder, by pushing the left stick further in the direction you want to turn and maybe tapping the shoulder buttons faster

-Hold the right trigger almost all of the time, especially when moving forward. Holding the right-trigger should be your default. When moving forward control your height by pushing forward on the left stick to go forward and descend slowly, and when you need to climb a little either just ease off on the left stick or pull back on the left stick. If you need to descend quicker, that's when you let go of the right trigger, and you only really need the left trigger if you want to plummet out of the sky.

That is very good advice for people having problem's with the choppers.
