Golden fields is excellent, really nice food
Cafe di stansio is really really good, a bit more $ but they have a lunch special everyday.

When we were there in honeymoon, we ate in the Taxi Dining Rooms on Fed Square. Not cheap, but amazing!

Nice French restaurant in South Yarra called France Soir..not too far from st kilda.

There's also a place called Santa Ana which is a latin restaurant in St Kilda...not bad

If you give an idea of how much you want to spend and type of restaurants they like you might get some more specific advice?

as mentioned, Vue Du Monde is outstanding but expect to spend no less than $250 per head. Bistro Vue is much cheaper, less formal and really really good too. expect around $125-150 per head. Vue Du Monde is one of the best (and most expensive) restaurants in Aus, worth it though.

also mentioned Rockpool in southbank is fantastic, haven't been there in a few years but i'd expect around the $150 a head.

the Stokehouse, never been but only heard great things about it.

have a look here and you shouldn't go too wrong http://www.urbanspoon.com/n/71/7129/Melbourne/St-Kilda-restaurants
