History; Just started making notes on Jarrow
I read on the chief examiner's report (ah, sad, I know, but it sort of counted as study ), and it was mentioned that people relied too much on case studies when answering questions - Vietnam being a prime example.
Also, I too have caught up on all my lost sleep (and a bit more on top), but I'd want to get cracking. Thinking of Pharmacy in UCC currently.0 -
AtomicKoala wrote: »Probably not the best place to discuss it, but are you going particularly in depth with the other case studies (aside from the DBQ Pursuit of Sovereignty & Impact of Partition ones)?

Well my history teacher,is only saying to learn the 9 case studies, i.e know the bases of 9 essays for the mocks in 4 weeks time, so that's what I was kind of doing . Tbh the bases of 9 essays on top of the case studies for DBQ's is all I am going to get done!
But when I say I know Jarrow, I also know Economic and Social problems in Britian during the inter-war years, like the chapter Jarrow is in.
And say for the Nuremburg Rallies, I also know the characteristics of the Nazi State in peace and war, which is the chapter that the case study is in :pac: if that makes any sense :L so basically im going to know 3 chapters that include the 3 case studies for the mocks! After that then, i'll add more, but not too much hopefully xD What way are you going about revising?
Well, I suppose reading the repot is PRACTICALLY studying
Pharmacy is my number one at the moment too are you picking UCC over TCD and RSCI for any particular reason?0 -
So study wise, really must log into this more often!;
English; Revised all Larkin's Poetry
Irish; 2 scraith pics, an Gnathrud and a little oral
Maths; Finished revising The Line and started The Circle
French; Oral note
History; Finished Jarrow notes and started making notes on The Coleraine case study
Biology; Finshed Skeleton and Muscles, started Endocrine system
Chemisty; Started revising Rates of Reaction!0 -

I did an essay comparing Britain and Germany's socioeconomic problems in the interwar period in my pre-pre, nice topic, and people oft dont focus on it. But I think I'll have to specialise for the actual Pre, I don't think there's much point knowing the whole course, especially when I have to add America to the mix).Pharmacy is my number one at the moment too are you picking UCC over TCD and RSCI for any particular reason?
Money! I can't afford to move and live away from home. With UCC I can get the bus from Grange, then stoll in from South Mall. Pharmacy is my number two at the moment (although I don't do biology... the joys of choosing one's LC subjects in third year!). Is UCC your number one? It's a great uni, and the Biomed building is beautiful. Unfortunately the Pharmacy one isn't quite as nice
Sorry for disturbing your study thread btw. Looks like you got a fair bit done anyway!0 -

Tough going, but History is the one subject you can really cram imo.

I apologise for seeming like a completely ignorant person and not replying I've been up to my eyes with study and revision and was trying to avoide any distractions. When you say comparing the British and German ecomonies and social problems, have you enough to use for Germany? I think i'd have enough info to write about two paragraphs on Germany and then i'd have to dedicate the other 7-8 to Brittan bringing in Jarrow?
Did you have your Pre yet? What did you think? I completely agree, History and Biology for me are the two subjects where you can really cram the night before, there's just so much to learn!
Whats your number 1? Yeah UCC is mine atm. I loved the biomed building but I really liked the pharmacy one too, I don't know it seems so modern and the staff seem friendly. I was down there over the Christmas break for their open day.0 -

Wow I've been gone from this for so long :pac:
I thought i'd post a catch up kinda thing on how the Pres went.
Overall, if we were lucky enough to get papers like that in June I think i'd have no problem. Unforchunatly I know my teachers picked the easier of the two papers for us and we got numerous hints as to what to study. Sometimes being told nearly exactly what was on the paper.
But i'm happy enough with them all, really nice papers. Maths for me was a bit of a let down but I reckon my paper 2 will bring my mark up a bit
Theese are my predicted grades:
English B3
Irish A2
Maths C3
French B1
Biology A2
Chemistry A1
History B1
Overall, approx. 535, just 30 points under what I need in June. We'll see how the next few weeks go anyway as results start coming in. I know there's a lot more work to do for June
Im planning on taking this week off, I was nearly in a state of utter exhaustion by the end of last week. I was advised by everyone to enjoy myself this week and get back into the swing of things slowly come Monday0 -

I haven't even been to the Pharmacy one... I don't think it could compare to the biomed like. I didn't even know there was an open day over Christmas0 -
AtomicKoala wrote: »It's fine The more I try to study the more distracted I become!
Hmm, well like, I would rarely write more than 8 paragraphs in the first place (excluding the conclusion and intro).
It's just I really, really dislike Jarrow.
Nope, they are starting on Tuesday after the midterm, History is the last exam. I have OL Irish the same day, so I can just spend 5 hours cramming for it
Ah I've med down, so I've the HPAT in the middle of my Pres

I'm so glad it's all over tbh! You'll feel such relief come the end of the pres!
My teacher says 10 paragraphs, not including your conclusion, all at 6 or7 marks each which in turn adds up to 60+! But I only had time to write 9 paragraphs in each of my essays in the pre. I really messed up the contextualisation though kicking myself! If your getting either of the two exams we had for the pres, you need to watch Jarrow I'm afraid
History was my last exam too, in a way it works in your favour, as you said you can cram! But on the other hand, by the time the last day comes your seriously lacking engery and I got to the stage where I was saying to myself 'do I really care anymore?' I kept going though and it paid off. Ordinary Irish you'll be flying with!
Wow! That's a lot of work on your shoulder s! I'm sure the HPAT will be no bother to you though! Have you gone to the prep courses?
Yeah it was just the pharmacy open day, a really worthwhile day because you got such an insight into the course and the practical work aswell! I don't know why but the huge buildings in UCC remind my of a hospital esp the Biomed! Maybe it's just me though... Coming from the back end of nowhere into a massive place like that! xD0 -

And tbh you could probably get 8/9s per paragraph, which would mean only 8 paragraphs to ensure the 60+.

Hah I wish, you should see my Section 3 results Yeah I'm using the online ********, it's fairly decent.Yeah it was just the pharmacy open day, a really worthwhile day because you got such an insight into the course and the practical work aswell! English B3
Irish A2
Maths C3
French B1
Biology A2
Chemistry A1
History B1
Ive nearlly gotten all the Pres back at this stage, they've been coming back bit by bit over the past 3 weeks
Actual results:
English-still waiting
Irish-A1
Maths-C2
French-A2
History-B1
Biology-A2
Chemistry-A1
That adds up to 555, 20 points more than I had predicted so I'm delighted. Just have to reproduce those results in June. And work on bringing maths up a little bit!
It'll be busy from now untill June without a doubt! xD0
